With a repertoire spanning over a dozen years and 1,500 professional performances worldwide, FLAM CHEN continues to be one of the most innovative fire troupes working in North America today. Their art is a new form of extreme theatre, utilizing aspects of circus, martial arts, dance, ritual, aerial acrobatics, stilt-walking, art installation, and engineering to create unique panoramic spectacles and narratives that are unlike anything you have ever seen.
Flam Chen has wowed audiences worldwide, performing at large events, such as ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL in Hollywood, CA, NYC FRINGE in New York, High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, CA, Philly FRINGE, The International Arts Festival of MACAU, China, JUST FOR LAUGHS and THEATRE DE RUE in Quebec, Canada.
In addition, the troupe has enriched the cultural memory of many international communities through educational outreach, teaching stilt-walking and acrobatics alongside fellow comrades, the Carpetbag Brigade, in both Nanaimo, BC, and Monterrey, Mexico for the The Universal Forum of Cultures. Perhaps the most significant legacy attributed to Flam Chen is their stewardship of the cultural non-profit arts organization, Many Mouths One Stomach, and its flagship event, the All Souls Procession Weekend, both based in Tucson, AZ.
FLAM CHEN has earned awards such as Tucson Weekly's Best Performing Artist Award for three years, a NY FRINGE Excellence Award for "Rites Ov Spring", and Congressional Recognition for its role in community outreach. The troupe also has been raved about in The New York Post, New York Times, Philadelphia Tribune, Dance Spirit, and Details, among other publications, as well as a featured chapter in the book Freaks and Fire: The Underground Reinvention of Circus , by J.Dee Hill.
