Techno Roman Project

Turkish Rom-electronic music from todays Istanbul

About Me

What happens if you combine Turkish Rom music with electronic rhythm sections? In 2003, this intriguing question lead to the formation of Techno Roman Project, a group of musicians who explore the co-existence of tradition and technology.Techno Roman Project recorded their first album Feleque which was released by Elec-Trip Records in Istanbul. In the album, famous clarinet player Selim Sesler and his string team represented the Rom portion of Techno Roman Project. Elec-Trip Records electronic music arrangers, who keep up with the Turkish underground electronic scene, built the electronic part of the project. The creator of the project, percussionist Lari Dilmen, managed to build a bridge between two distinct worlds as the musical director of Feleque.Techno Roman Project gets on stage to perform brand new songs, as well as new interpretations of classic songs, such as Mavi Boncuk . In each concert, different virtuoso players with their authentic instruments form the team. Therefore, sometimes a violin accompanies a clarinet; at other times a qanoun is seen more appropriate for the occasion. Whichever solo instruments are selected, they are preferably joined by a Turkish belly dancer. After all, electronic or not, Turkish Rom music is almost unthinkable without a dancer
