I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4Jaymz Nylon/ "African Audio Research...Vol.2": One of New York’s favorite sons returns to the fray with an album that marks a departure from his usual style. Jaymz Nylon, godfather of Afro tech, serves up an album that is steeped in more traditional African rhythms than his past work.
Nylon has always immersed himself in genre-bending productions, concocting a heady alchemy of beats that encompass anything from Latin to jazz and, of course, African. All are underscored by a techy, yet soulful groove. Here, Nylon opts for the swirling, surreal melodies of the Motherland. The East Coaster also reveals a very deep, sensitive side to his musical persona, which makes for compelling listening.
“African Audio Research Program,†which is in its second installment, is beautifully constructed and displays a mature side to this talented producer. “Yemaya†is a succulent cut that features a broken Afro beat and subtly slap-happy bass. But the engines that drive this tune are the glorious cellos that add an overall poignant quality. On his duet with vocalist Allison Degbe, titled “To Be In Love,†Nylon, also on vocals, is loose as is the production. As a result, the duet has a relaxing atmosphere of two people in love who know they’re in it for the long haul! Other standouts include the surreal “No Can Hear You Scream,†which has a nu jazz, London-meets-NYC feel to it. Overall, “African Audio Research Program†is a fine collection.
