Jenesis

About Me

At a young age it was evident that Jenesis would be quite eccentric and musically inclined. Throughout her youth she was classically trained in vocal music and piano, which she also plays by ear. At 14, she began performing on the jazz circuit in downtown Detroit and its surrounding areas, where she was deeply influenced by the masterpieces of artists ranging from Rachelle Ferrell and Phyllis Hyman, to Afro-Euro Pop celebrities, Les Nubians and Motown legend Gladys Knight. The result is a beautifully unique stage presence and groove oriented show. Due to a delightful mixture of coffee houses, caberets, festivals, the jazz and blues jointz of the motor city, this exclusively funkdified and soulful artist was born.In 2000,Jenesis began her journey not only into adulthood, but becoming a bonified trained and experienced artist. She left Detroit and relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, where she began performing at numerous venues, sometimes 7 nights a week. Four particular Mississippi icon musicians, jazz pianist Andy Hardwick (Etta James, Nina Simone, Tina Turner); award winning Blues/Jazz vocalist Patrice Moncelle, Mo Money Band, and jazz saxophonist, eZra Brown, (Cassandra Wilson, David Banner); all poured into her, developing and later fine tuning her soulful sound. Resulting in her being recognized as one of "Jackson's Best Female Artist" 5 years in a row.A lyricist at heart, Jenesis writes all of her original material she performs. Her creations consist of life poems with instrumentation that invite the listener into a moment in time. Jenesis masterfully moans, whispers, and roars her affections and and sometimes disdain for life's pleasures, pains and lessons learned. An oasis of creativity, she uses her diverse rhythms and styles of written emotion to touch and identify with her audience, aspiring to leave her organic words scrawled across the strands of their souls. Her honest lyrics are appreciated and welcomed by all genders, races, and ages. The only description befitting the voice of Jenesis is: a captivating consciousness of emotions. She manages to reach out to every person within the sound of her voice. Her soulful full-bodied timbre demands attention and receives masses of it! She has iron lungs plus driving red-hot passion for the beautiful gift of song that she has been blessed with. Jenesis has an ability to captivate an audience with her classic voice reaching in and out of octaves and intricate slides and runs, leaving all tangled in her web of jazz acoustic soul.
