In the not-too-distant era of the 1980's and early '90's, the City of Wheeling enthusiastically embraced a performing arts group called EMPTY STEP, which performed wildly popular "Celebrations of the Spoken Word" at several area taverns and other locales.
After a hiatus of nearly fifteen years, co-founder Tom Stobart and I have decided to revive the celebrations at Carin's Pub, 2341 Chapline Street in Historic Center Wheeling. Although Wheeling's population has dropped off considerably in the interim, Stobart and I are convinced that there will still be a considerable audience of "celebrants" as well as writers who are willing to share their work.
This month "EMPTY STEP" presents "Hal" (need we say more) a selection of anti-war poetry selected and performed by Hal O'Leary, founder and artistic director of Towngate Theatre. Also featured is Poet Peter Byers. The evening will conclude with an Open Mic segment, in which all present will be invited to share a brief sample of their work.
Drinks and food may be bought at the bar. Admission to the evening is FREE. The reading will transpire Tuesday, March 13th at 8PM and continues on the second Tuesday of each month. I will advertise the contents of the show for each month, so continue to check myspace for furture performances.
