About Me

My name is Ben , you may recognise me from the band Abrasion . Doubt it though! BEN FM is my alter ego, a vessel for me to transmit ideas via the medium of sound.
In 2005 I recorded 10 albums , totalling 100 songs. A lot of these songs you can hear by going to the page www.stage.fm/benfm . In August 2005 I signed an artist development deal with Chromium records where a few releases followed. In October my song "Circus Rope" appeared on a compilation album from the label entitled "Brilliance" and in December I released my first download single, "Lullalies".
In 2006 I recorded a 16-track CD - Tuning in on a higher frequency , created a new alter ego under the name MC V as an outlet for my wacky, surreal, yet thoughtful side, and I also played my first live show in June in front of some actual human beings, yes, alive ones and everything!
In 2007 I recorded a 10-track CD called Memory . These days you’ll find my on youtube as BenLoka .If you wanna get in touch just send me a message or e-mail me at [email protected] . If you’d like to get hold of a CD, please refer to the blog above! Hope you like the music =)

In 2006 I recorded the epic ’Tuning in on a Higher Frequency’.

My debut single was released December 5th 2005. The song is called Lullalies and was available for download only...

..

I appeared on a compilation from Chromium Records called "Brilliance" released October 3rd 2005. My song Circus Rope is the closing song on the album.

The 10 Albums of 2005
Eve

..
10 songs recorded in January 2005. I wrote the first song Hope in the dark because at the time my house had no power, and thats partly the reason why this is mainly an acoustic album. The photos on the album were taken at the same time I wrote the song, when there was no power for days.
Track listing:
01. Hope
02. Icarus
03. Vertigo in Space
04. Little Mushroom
05. Oh Well
06. Hidden Enemy
07. Feather
08. Purple Lips
09. Its not my fault I’m fat
10. Raindrops
Evolution

..

10 songs recorded in February/March 2005. I wrote this with the idea of it being the "other half" of Eve, in that it was mainly written on the electric guitar. During the entire recording of this, there was heavy snow outside. Some of the worst snow storms I have ever seen occured while I was actually recording, and on one of the tracks you can actually hear the ambulances outside due to the chaos that was happening all around.
Track Listing:
01. The Return
02. Relationship
03. Inside Out
04. Recycle
05. Orbital Park
06. Ice Queen
07. Take Me With U (Prince Cover)
08. I Believe in You (Kylie Cover)
09. Blue
10. Snowflakes
Tide of Mercury

..
10 songs recorded in March/April 2005. I gave it this title because within the exact time period that all the songs were written and recorded, there was a Mercury Retrograde in the sky. This is something often linked to things going wrong, and nothing going to plan. The "Tide" part comes from the main theme of the album, which is the observation of people wasting their lives, and that they are being washed away with the tide of unplanned events.
Track Listing:
01. Horizons
02. Sunday Morning
03. The Sky is a Question
04. When Future Events Cast Shadows
05. Liberated Me
06. Saw Red (Sublime Cover)
07. The One
08. Not Afraid
09. An Experience
10. Tide of Mercury
Apocalyptica

..
10 songs recorded in April/May 2005. This album was based on a dream I had at the end of April about the end of the world. Originally intended to be a heavy album, I decided to split the CD into two parts represented by the serene front cover, and blood-red back. The first part is looking at the world as an enjoyer and realising how significant every little thing is that happens. The second part is from the viewpoint of an observer who can see the world coming to an end. The last track conludes with my interpretation of the apocalypse... in audio form! There is also an additional CD with some films I have made to go with the album.
Track Listing:
01. Time in the Sky
02. Blame
03. She Plays Music [video]
04. Perfect Smile (censored)
05. Set in Stone
06. What am I?
07. I Don’t Know (Featuring Lloyd Francis)
08. Setting Sun
09. Pink Moon (Nick Drake Cover)
10. The End of Your World
Eternal Spirit

..
10 songs recorded in June 2005. This album starts at the point where the last CD ended. The songs are particularly focused and interlinked as I wrote and recorded most of them within the same week. There is one theme that runs throughout... the afterlife. It’s based on an image I had of a person leaving their body after death, and floating slowly up to the sky, into the unknown, reflecting on what they are leaving behind. The gradual release of the ego and acceptance of what has never been seen.
Track Listing:
01. The Ascendant
02. Free
03. All You Need is This
04. You’re Nearly There
05. Circus Rope
06. Long Sighted
07. Consciousness Injection
08. Sunlight
09. Galapogos (Smashing Pumpkins Cover)
10. Space and Time
Phase

..lbumart.jpg " width="400" ..
10 songs recorded in June/July 2005. The theme of the songs is simply about phases, things coming to an end, and things beginning. Just the idea that everything is temporary, except yourself. Realising that people are not the images you give to them in your head, and realising the only person you can totally know is yourself, no matter how much you love others. Phase also means "to affect" and it can be so easy to be affected by change. But the message is.... Don’t be! If you realise that you are the only thing that really exists forever, then you should’t allow yourself to be affected by things that are temporary, ie. life, other people, situations, jobs, love, hate, the future and the past
Track Listing:
01. Phase
02. I Understand
03. Changed Man
04. Intolerance (Tool Cover)
05. Round and Round You Go
06. 5138008
07. Conditioned Souls in a Sphere of Lights
08. Tube Station Empathy
09. World Caves In
10. Lullalies
Window on the World

..
10 songs recorded in August 2005. The CD is just about perspective. The artwork is filled with TV/computer screens displaying natural images. The back cover shows the image of a window, inside a window, inside a TV screen, inside a computer screen, inside a CD box. I have the view that people’s perspective on life is just one handed down to them through other people’s eyes: Through parents, friends, religions, books and authority. If you were trapped behind a series of physical windows like this, then you’d surely try and break out. So why not the same with perspectives, why not break out of the series of mental windows that we adopt without even questioning
Track Listing:
01. Glass Planet
02. Oxygen Bubble
03. BeEverythingNowForeverMore
04. Moving (Supergrass Cover)
05. Covered Up
06. Surrender
07. Look Up
08. Hellavision
09. View Finder
10. Thru the Window
The God Channel

..
10 songs recorded in September 2005. It’s basically about different perceptions of what God is, and how there are so many different religions, ideas and channels to reach God, but there is only one truth. Everyone is unhappy with their life simply because they’re chasing after the wrong things. The songs are just talking a lot about life as usual and trying to separate the superficial from the real
Track Listing:
01. Falling
02. I Used to Think God was the Sun
03. "It’s Over" said Ben
04. Your Fleeting Ego
05. Return to Orbital Park
06. This Guy’s in Love with You (Herb Alpert Cover)
07. It doesn’t matter
08. Ocean
09. Identical Twins
10. Cloud Music
..
Intermission

..
10 songs recorded in October/November 2005. I wanted to do something completely different to what I do usually. The songs on here arent so much songs as they are a collection of random noises and insane lyrics. Not many people will get to hear this CD, its more like a B-Side album, and an experiment. I wouldnt want it to be released, but Im glad that Ive made it. If I had to say there was a theme it would be describing my dream-state, as this is where most of the ideas came from. This album is like me taking a sidestep and doing a little dance before getting back to what I really have to say. Its exactly as the title suggests, an intermission before the finale.
Track Listing:
01. You’re such a Coward
02. Hypnosis
03. EIEIO
04. Weekend Stars
05. Stay Positive
06. Never
07. What Evacuation/Ode to Kelly Clarkson
08. Prince Killed Grace
09. Planet Earth (Ball and Chain)
10. Asleep on Halloween
Transmission

..
10 songs recorded in October/November/December 2005. My final album of 2005, and I wanted to end the year how it began, with a collection of just pure, well written songs based on the acoustic guitar. The songs arent straight acoustic songs, but they could easily be, as this time Ive concentrated more on song writing than anything else. This album is all about letting go and finding truth. Ive got to a point where thats all I care about now. Ive wanted the last album to be called Transmission as it sums up the real meaning of BEN FM, to transmit positivity and hope.
Track Listing:
01. Playground 4
02. Transmission
03. Planet Earth
04. When I’m Gone
05. Deleted Army
06. Leave Me
07. The Drunk
08. Immortal Prayer
09. To Reach Perfect Knowledge
10. 2005
