About Me

My name is Erik Debny, this is my official myspace page. I am the songwriter of Belgium's finest beat pop band THE SHOVELS. The song you are hearing is a track from our new album (released in 2007) Dig It. For more Shovels entertaintment check out my first friend The Shovels. The first clip is The Shovels' videoclip "Business Man" and the second clip is the complete one and a half hour cartoon picture "Yellow Submarine". I also paint prewar oldtimer cars now and then. I collect vintage guitars, amplifiers, record players and records, anything vintage that makes music. My aim with the Shovels is to bring the golden era back or at least try to relive it!

My Interests

I like playing live on stage with The Shovels. I'm crazy about good music, a good tune can totally make my day. My moods are very much influenced by the music I'm currently listening to. So I'm constantly playing old records from the seventies, sixties and earlier. Keeps my spirits up.I love my cat Pluis (Fluff).I also like playing chess. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I don't eat meat and I don't eat apples. I don't eat very healthy either because otherwise life would become way to boring for me. Ha haI am gradually converting my house into a giant time machine, not in a way as that I can actually go back into time, more in a way of me getting the past over here. I see the 20st century as a mining shaft and my house as the elevator on top of it.Anyway I'm happy to be living in the 21st century. This time is where I belong.

I'd like to meet:

you

Godfried Bomans*Roald Dahl*Edgar Allen Poe*Zen & the art of motorcycle maintenance Robert M. Pirsig, I'll give you a small part of this wonderfull book :{They talk once in a while in as few pained words as possible about "it" or "it all" as in the sentence,"There is just no escape from it." And if asked, "From what?" the answer might be "The whole thing." or "The whole organized bit," or even "The system." Sylvia once said defensively,"Well, you know how to cope with it," which puffed me up so much at the time I was embarrassed to ask what "it" was and so remained somewhat puzzled. I thought it was something more mysterious than technology. But now I see that the "it" was mainly, if not entirely, technology. But, that doesn't sound right either. The "it" is a kind of force that gives rise to technology, something undefined, but inhuman, mechanical, lifeless, a blind monster, a death force. Something hideous they are running from but know they can never escape. I'm putting it way too heavily here but in a less emphatic and less defined way this is what it is. Somewhere there are people who understand it and run it but those are technologists, and they speak an inhuman language when describing what they do. It's all parts and relationships of unheard-of things that never make any sense no matter how often you hear about them. And their things, their monster keeps eating up land and polluting their air and lakes, and there is no way to strike back at it, and hardly any way to escape it.}(page 16) *At the moment I'm studying the manual of my Tascam recording mixer.
