World music at its finest!
Michigan’s Premier Flamenco Jazz Guitarist
“Domingo”
Using sensuous melodies, wonderfully constructed songs and exceptional musicianship, Domingo has combined the complementary elements of Flamenco guitar, Nu-Jazz and Latin Rock, creating a unique sound and musical landscape.
Domingo's self-titled debut album is a collection that has been said to give listeners a feeling of romance, desire and serenity.
A brief history:
Domingo Corpus is a multi-genre musician and recording artist - one of those creative individuals who doesn’t believe in categories or boundaries. Whether its, Rock, Classical, Jazz, Blues or Flamenco Rumba, live performance or in the studio recording, Domingo is constantly blending and mixing musical influences. An accomplished Bassist and Performer, who has shared stages with some of Detroit’s most notable rock musicians, Domingo found a love for the Flamenco guitar and began to study this latest style, embarking on a wonderfully romantic musical crossing.
Departing the "Rock" world, Domingo, along with long time friend, guitarist and musical collaborator Steve Tarnowsky, decided to pursue his love of Flamenco. As the influences began weaving through the music and compositions materialized, performance became the natural next step. Realizing that the music needed that extra kick only a rock rhythm section could bring, Domingo recruited help from his cousin, drummer/vocalist Lorenzo Gonzalez. Having spent 8 years as part of a successful rhythm unit, Lorenzo enlisted fellow players, bassist Michael Massie and rhythm guitarist John Sullens to help solidify the bands foundation.
Another one of Domingo's cousins, Pedro Hernandez, adds the percussion and another vocal dimension to the show. When he’s not capturing the hearts of his listeners with his velvet voice, Pedro can be heard playing the congas among other percussive instruments, adding a flare and spice to the songs. Finally, to round out these musical arrangements, violinist Nady Benyamine who finished his undergraduate in the fall of 2007 with a double major in Violin Performance and Music Education, brings his phenomenal style and talent to the blend.
Bringing the elements of dance to Domingo are Alexandra and Renata who are part of Danza Nueva, a Detroit-based Fusion Dance Ensemble that uses elements of flamenco, classical Spanish, and other dance forms. Alexandra and Renata have created an artistic style that exudes their love of flamenco dance to audiences all over the Midwest. Their passion, artistry, brilliant footwork, and colorful costumes bring beauty, elegance and grace to Domingo's performances.
This exceptional group of musicians and dancers, who through the course of their extensive touring careers have graced such stages as…The Fox Theater…The Emerald Theater…The Palace… Soaring Eagle Casino…The Fillmore… Hart Plaza... promise a performance that will captivate, exhilarate, and astound you. If you have the opportunity to see Domingo, you will experience an evening of Romance! Excitement! & Celebration!
