Music has always been a major part of my life. In my youth my parents used to play Charles Strauss, Les Baxter, Nelson Eddy (who my mother sang with), alot of percussions like Ping Pong Percussion, Espanol Percussion, Percussion and Guitar (my father worked as a producer, and with Village Vanguard for awhile), Herb Alpert, Bob Dylan, and so on... However, as a child I mostly liked to just hang out and make up songs. I began dancing at Disneyland, a New Orleans Jazz band was playing and my body started moving in ways I had never experienced before. In my teens I was introduced to lots of bands by my brother, Bryan LeMar, primarily rock & roll - Fleetwood Mac, King Crimson, Moody Blues, Allman Brothers, Warren Zevon, Jon Luc Ponty, Pink Floyd, and Yes...Then came the Grateful Dead, their music freed me up. What a great place to explore movement and vibration. The Grateful Dead Family was a great support for coming into myself. I was also listening to other genres of music - classical, world, reggae, Native American, Liquid Didj, Tibetan and Benedictine Monks Chanting, Gamelon, African,...Then my good friends, Mr. Tim and then Ice Cube Slim, both musicologists began teaching me about the evolution of music... gospel, blues, jazz, soul, R&B; with artist's like Robert Johnson, Billy Holiday, Satchmo, Mahalia Jackson, Hank Ballard, Little Willie John, Howlin' Wolf, Roosevelt Sykes, Professor Longhair, James Booker, Rockin Doopsie, Clifton Chenier, Percy Mayfield, Jessie Hill, Lonnie Johnson, Champion Jack Dupree, King Oliver, Tomcat's Dance Bands, Ernie K-Doe...Now my current library houses an eclectic mix - all of the above and Mbongi, Robbie Robertson, Railroad Earth, String Cheese Incident, Otis Spann, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young...More importantly I cannot get through this without mentioning that incerdible family of musicians from beloved New Orleans - Let's start with the Dr.'s - Dr. Guitar, Dr. John, and Renard Poche; then we've got the Mardi Gras Indians and their Big Chiefs, Bo Dolis and the Wild Magnolia's, Monk Boudreaux and the Golden Eagles, Wild Tchoupatoulis, Donald Harrison Jr. and the Guardians of the Flame, Alfred Doucette (there are many Mardi Gras Indian that deserve to be mentioned here that are not beacuase of limited space)...Then the Grand masters of the keys - Ivan and Art Neville, Allen Toussaint, Henry Buler, Eddie Bo, Jon Cleary, Joe Krown, Jon Gros, Mike Hood, ...Funkin It Up - Al "Carnival" Johnson, Uncle Lionel and the Treme Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Dirty Dozen, Hot 8, The Meters, Neville Brothers, Dumpstafunk, Walter Wolfman, Papa Grows Funk, PBS, Russell Batiste and friends...Guardians of the Swamp-Coco Robichaux, Sunpie, Tab Benoit, Monk Boudreaux, Buckwheat Zydeco, Rockin Doopsie Jr. and Dwayne Doopsie,Papa Mali...For Rock-let us not forget the Radiators, The Subdudes, Cowboy Mouth, Rockin Jake, Fats Domino,... And all that jazz - Jazz Vipers,The Palmetto Bugs, Irvin Mayfield, Washboard Chaz, Wynton Marsailles, Bob French, John Boutte, Kid Chocolate, and how could I forget The Preservation Hall Jazz band... There are many more I could name, but I am running out of room. I love them all. New Orleans is truly the land of the Guardian of the Groove.
The Boy with a Horn, City of Joy, All on A Mardi Gras Day, Crazy People, Dances with Wolves, Four Feathers, Frida, Eat Drink Man Woman, Eve's Bayou, A Walk in The Clouds,... Lightening in a Bottle - Great music video. Clarence "Gatmouth" Brown, B.B. King, Neville Brothers, Dr. John, ...a very strong line-up with moving pictures. 1 Giant Leap *****Amazing, you've got to see it!
I don't have a clue! I've got better things to do!
In my library I have books about history, culture, psychology, romance, and mysticism. My all time favorite romance series is Angelique by Sergeanne Golon. I have a number of out of print books, especially on mysticism. I believe the mid 1800's were one of the periods opening the way for people's spiritual liberation - leading towards freedom of thought and speech- some of the signifigant writers then were Manly P. Hall, Blavatsky, Underhill,Myers, ... Currently Reading: Gumbo Ya Ya by Tallant- a great book about New Orleans in the late 1800's, covers a wide range of topic from the Irish Channel to Mardi Gras ***** Shaman, Healer, Sage - covering the healing techniques of the seers from South America, deals with energy healing and chakra systems *****
Those who stood the ground since Katrina and continue to stand their ground now for Beloved New Orleans!
