J.D. Sipe is an award winning self taught artist from New Mexico. When he's not playing bass with local blues bands he's working in his converted garage where he creates mixed media tributes to his favorite musicians. His work has shown in exhibitions and galleries in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, California, Georgia, Mississippi, Zurich, Australia and Washington, D.C. His paintings have appeared in Shaman's Drum magazine, Mind Science Journal, the Collectors Guide, Raw Vision, Blues Review and Santa Fean magazine. J.D. was born in 1951 in the small farming community of New London, Wisconsin but has lived most of his life in the Southwest. The sights, sounds colors and flavors of the border region are a big influence on his art. J.D.'s other passion besides painting is music and he has been a professional musician for almost 40 years performing in saloons, dancehalls, honky tonks, taverns, roadhouses and night clubs all over the Southwest. He's had the honor to perform with blues greats like Homesick James, Wild Child Butler, Joe Huston and Buddy Ace. These days you can find him with the HooDoos or with the Lost Tribes of Mardi Gras, an Afro-Carribean drum crew.
