Leon Kid Chocolate Brown & Chocolate City

About Me

Leon Brown, a native son of New Orleans, began studying the trumpet in elementary school at 9 years old. However, it was not until the age of 15 that Leon made his start in fulfilling the mission of refining his art as a jazz trumpet player, bandleader, and entertainer. He first found true interest and purpose in music while attending The New Orleans Center For Creative Arts (NOCCA), where a rigorous music theory, history, and private training curriculum were implemented. Here was also the stage for some of his first public performances. After graduating from NOCCA, Leon has gone on to perform with some of and the world’s greatest bands and musicians. A few noteworthy collaborations include 7 years with Billboard Award winning, Grammy nominated band Los Hombres Calientes, The Headhunters, Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., MC5, Soul Live, George Porter, Joe Sample, The Kermit Ruffins Big Band, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, The Wardell Quezere Big Band, Henry Butler, Davell Crawford, Adonis Rose, Irvin Mayfield, Shannon Powell, Leroy Jones, and The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, to name a few. These performances took place in Clubs and Music Festivals around the world. After these diverse experiences, Leon’s sound has been molded into what has been described as smooth and soulful yet hot and jazzy. Leon now leads a band of his own, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown & Chocolate City (Homegrown New Orleans Jazz & Nuevo Blues).
