FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: NOAM PIKELNY, 2007 GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
I play the 5-string banjo - acoustic music in the 3-finger style. Unfortunately, it was only recently that I came to the realization that clawhammer is where the money's at. It's too late to switch now.
Some of my projects:
In July 2004, I recorded my debut CD on Compass Records, "In The Maze". It's an all acoustic instrumental record featuring Todd Phillips, Matt Flinner, David Grier, and Gabe Witcher, esq. I'd hope you'd buy this album just to own artwork of me randomly playing the banjo in the middle a forest. The search and rescue team put this album way over budget, but I made it home.
I'm a member of the The John Cowan Band. The band has a new record coming out June 13, on Pinecastle records. It took forever to get released, we recorded it almost two years ago, with producer Jay Joyce. I was recently informed that Jay Joyce and Jay-Z are not the same person.
Have been working with good friends Chris Thile, Greg Garrison, Chris Eldridge and Gabe Witcher on a new record. I'm convinced the only reason I got hired for the project is because Thile wanted to steal my Ryne Sandberg cards. We've been working up in NYC, recording live to 2-track for that "old sound". "How to Grow a Woman from the Ground" comes out Sept. 12, on Sugar Hill Records. Last time I checked, all my Ryno cards are still there.
