I Just got the Thrive isolator from Shorty. It sounds goooooood!! I guess the tube inside is working it's magic!!
Duron Tarik coments on The Thrive Audio Isolator:
The Thrive Audio Isolator was so FUCKIN SMOOTH SOUNDING you could not tell when he was dropping the bass, it JUST sound like the records were made with those drops in them. That blew my mind right there. Shorty took me to the booth to see it up close & i had to hold my self back from touching the Thrive Audio Isolator.(i want one please can i have one)
Duron Tarik posts his coments on his Recent Purchase of a Thrive Audio Isolator:
http://www.systemsbyshorty.com/messageboard/toast.asp?sub=sh ow&action=posts&fid=2&tid=726
The first thing & biggest thing i notice right away was how it killed all the harshness coming out of my cd players. I always hated the yorkville tops we have, but they are only in the lounge so it was always cool. But now they are starting to sound like something with the isolator in the signal chain. Im loving the smooth responce it gives my system also. I can really hear what the tubes are doing compared to playing on the system without it. It brought the bass kick out front & in your chest were i like it also.
As far as isolators go, no other isolator i have heard adds to your sound system Like the Thrive, So i have to give Thrive an A+ for that. Im loving the sweep knobs A also for that feature. I can see having alot of fun just playing with the sweeps live in the club with certain records. Got to give Thrive an A+ for adding the tubes in an dj tool for the club. The lil things, like the ingraved lettering & the blue/gray knobs they used to me really sets Thrive apart from most of the other RLA colored or stander silver knobs isolators out there. The connection's on the back can't be touched by any isolator on the market today A for this also.
For me The Thrive Audio isolator is a win win, dope sound with killer features:
I can't wait to see what Thrive has instore for us next.
Thrive Audio Client Kevin James, speaks on his recent purchase of a Thrive Audio Islator:
http://www.systemsbyshorty.com/messageboard/toast.asp?sub=sh ow&action=posts&fid=2&tid=726
Wow didn't even know Shorty had a forum. Like Duron, I too recently purchased a Thrive Audio isolator and I have to say Duron hit it on the head with this post. The unit sounds absolutly amazing and there simply isn't another isolator out there that can compete with this one. I would elaborate but I don't think there is anything Duron didn't already say aside from the +6/+10 switch on the back. I tried the +6 side first then switched to +10 and holy crap, it just gave so much punch to the lows, all while staying 100% clean. Loving that feature.
The sound it produces is really something to behold. The lows just have more weight to them, the midbass is super clean, the mids sparkle and add a snap to the snare that I'm loving, and the highs have a sweetness to them without any harshness. It really breathes new life into the music. Everything else Duron already said, and quite well I'd say.
Thrive Audio Program Equalizer
9/01/07 The Most anticipated State Of The Art Program EQ, will be makin its rounds being demonstrated in nyc..s leading dance clubs.
I been listening to this prototype program eq for quite sometime now, & I have alot of serious listening hours on this eq, aswell as our team at Thrive Audio and it just sounds nothing short of spectacular, just unbelievable. We demoed this EQ with a wide variety of music chosen to listen to.
Its really amazing how it improves your source & system just by inserting it in your system. All the hash & fuzz that mumbles & clutters up the music is gone with this eq inserted in the signal chain, notes that will normally get lost & buried that you dont really notice in a recording, you hear so vividly with this Program EQ, you bypass this eq, & you notice imedialtly how info is just lost and congested sounding with less clarity when this eq is in bypass. This eq will reveal notes that you never really heard before in your fav music, all the little minute phrases mixed low in the recordings you hear cleanly and very clearly with incredible definition, then when you bypass the eq those minute phrases that you hear so cleanly and clearly, gets congested sounding and buried, just everything has a glarey texture to it when this eq is in bypass. The individuality of the instruments is incredible, the seperation, dynamic range & frequency Response is beyond unbelievable with the Thrive Audio Program EQ.
The features & Topology we offer with the Thrive Audio Program EQ, no Program EQ of the past or present has ever been designed with these features or topologies in mind. With the Thrive Audio EQ you can really dial it in and sweetin up the source how you like it, and get rt where you need to go and take poor recordings that are hard to play on a system and make them very playable and extreamily enjoyable.

Splash W/ Shorty And Junior
I've got to say, that it was a great night to hear this EQ. I started the night with going to Pacha for the 718 Sessions w/ Danny and Louie. It sound in both rooms were different. When I got to Splash the show was in progress and the sound at this place is really really phenomenal. Since i've move back to new york i have going around and listening. I've got to say that there are rooms with a great deal of power but no real clarity in the way the sound is delivered. I do know that each time i go to splash (which has been about 3 to 4 times) since june it is always refreshing to hear a sound system that keeps it simple. So my hats off to all the staff at THRIVE and Shorty. Keep up the good work..... and for the rest of you guys you really should check the sound out at Splash.

I was at Cielo Wedensday! So, old man audio went out Wedensday night, I met up with Shorty, Duron, Ed, and a few others!
I was in the booth as the 5 band EQ was being put in, I heard the Bozak Iso during a previous party before the house night started. Not only did I see the EQ, I got to play with it as well over Cielos system. What a SMOOTH sounding piece. I loved punching up the low mids for percussions and stuff, every band has selectable turnover frequencies, and the piece has balls, and that certain sound in the mids, woody and creamy I call it.
Select the right turnover freq on the LF, punch it up a bit, and WOW, great weight, great sounding bottom, no muddiness. And you get some punch, not that car bass groan like I heard over the system with the Bozak piece in it! The highs and mids had no grit or harshness to it, I must admit, its a great EQ! Actually, more like a Masterpiece, to be exact.
Then Kevin Hedge came on, he played some outtafuckinsight music, and I have heard Kevin before, he has always had great taste in music, but Wedensday night he had a flow like Ive never heard out of him before! On the mic, Keven even said the night seemed alot livelier than usual, and attributed it to the crowd, but I looked at Shorty and Ed, they looked at me, and we all said he into that EQ and Isolator! You could see it in his face as he was playing, I dont need people to tell me any words, I study the facial expressions, and I know!
Classic circuits, new parts = great sound and high reliability. The piece DID NOT get tired or fatigued sounding through the night, as many other lesser items I have known, do!
This piece I really enjoyed, and I want to try it on my system. Today, right off the bat, I already know without a doubt I have better mids and highs than Cielo, so, I REALLY want to hear this Thrive 5 band EQ on my system!
Good job Shorty!

Well, it is here and I have heard, touched it and witneesed it. The Thrive series of Isolator and EQ is out of this world. Myself and the likes of Scott, Duron and Barry along with Shorty hung out at Cielo for a change and I don't go out. However I heard things in these units which I have not heard in 26 years of sound experience.
The EQ performs like a vintage warm hifi unit with clean crisp hi's sexy fullrange and ddep bass. The isolator did the business, it performed like and RLA crossover. The key point is no distortion existed at high levels when the system at Cielo was driven. These units are question hi end pro units. I watched when they were installed and when they were being tweaked, make no mistake SBS is for real. I was blown away which is rare for me and Scott who stood around with his mouth open. We where impressed as well as Duron and Barry.
The proto type eq looks superb and will blow anyone away. Good work Shorty, we had a blast. So if there is any doubt forget it it exists and right now I don't think there are any units out here that will come close. I heard some of the worst recorded tracks last night and the unit reshaped it to sound outstanding. Vocals and horns sound outrageous. My hat is off to Shorty. I dare anyone to differ, I heard for myself.
Pleasure meeting Duron and Barry, we had a great time.

Here is some technical info on the SBS S3X 3 way xover:
The SBS S3X 3way Active Stereo electronic xover, is designed and engineered to be used primarly with SBS multiple amplified 3,4,5 & 6 way SBS Sound systems. But the SBS S3X can be used in a number applications.
The SBS S3X offers 3 front panel rotary controls, Sub bass, full range & tweeter Hi frequency outputs to give the user total control over the entire sound system.
The S3X is designed with a choice of hand made custom built conductive plastic or carbon pots with custom tailered tapers, i was able to design the pots activity to operate exactly how i wanted it to operate. These custom hand made pots can only be offered with the S3X. The conductive Plastic pots are good for over 100,000 rotational turns & the Carbon Pots are good for well over 15,000 rotational turns, for many many years of hard use without sonic fatuige, durability, or tracking issues..
The circuit board traces where hand layed out with thick traces to asure the smoothest and fastest signal flow posible from component to component, to asure the highest quality would be achieved
The S3X is designed to withstand hard non stop use without failure.
Voicing of the SBS S3X:
I took careful measures to design this x-over to give the SBS S3X a 80s vintage tone.
I used very special technics to age the S3X to give this unit a 80s vintage tone, that will not have any effect on the reliability of my product.
SBS S3X Features:
+ 16 DB of boost in the Sub bass & Tweeter outputs, Fullrange, unity output,
3 front panel level controls can be used for variable gain, to cut, boost, or for custom tailoring & manipulating a recording from song to song with any portion of the sound system on the fly.
Hi quality stereo Unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs, color coded for ease of instalation and hook up
18 DB Butterworth slopes
Sub Bass Freq 20 - 100 HZ
Tweeter Freq 7K - UP
Fullrange 20 hz to over 30K

Shorty came over with his SBS S3X x-over with conductive plastic pots:
Shorty came over and hooked his x-over with conductive plastic pots, and I was impressed. The design is tight and the knobs are HOT. The feel of the knobs are lick cutting through butter...smooth. As for the sound...once again like his isolator piece..the sound is superb. On the high end ,being that it is crossed over at 7k you definitely get more information coming through your tweeters. Which really makes the source audio sound so much lively and you hear sounds of instruments coming through your tweeter you probably never new was there. The fullrange is tight but has balls the more you turn the knob clockwise. Same for the bass. Overall its a strong clean sounding x-over.You will mot be disappointed. Here is some Pics i took at home in my DJ Room...http://www.wavemusic.com/community/showthread.php?t=6 371&page=5

RASHIEM DEMOS HIS SBS S3X 3 WAY XOVER WITH CARBON POTS:
SHORTY CAME OVER WITH HIS S3X X-OVER WITH THE CARBON POTS AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THE FEEL AND SOUND WAS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT. THEY BOTH SOUND GOOD BUT I FEEL THE CARBON POTS SOUNDS MORE TRUE TO THE SOURCE AUDIO YOUR LISTENING TOO. THE CARBON POTS ARE MORE 80'S AND ANALOG FEELISH. IT GIVES YOU THAT CLUB THUMB IN YOUR CHEST BUT STILL HAS THE CLARITY OF VOCALS AND HIGHS TO KEEP UP

BIG BALLS on that SBS crossover.
Well Shorty came thru Elevation with the SBS S3X XOVER & we put it in the system & the sound was massive. First thing i notice was the sweeting sound it gave to the tweeters, the full range was laid back & smooth with just the right bump. the Sub was big & pushing alot of weight around. You don't have to push the unit hard to get proper sound. & if i kept the SX3 at the same levels i use to play my DSX 3000 at i would be able to turn my master on my urei down from 7 to 8 being peak to 5 to 6 being peak so thats a good plus. Overall the sound was an A+. It gave my stacks that all in one speaker sound with all the proper seperation. I have to give it up to Shorty & his team once again for another product well done.
As i stated many times I'm not an tech guy i just know good sound to my ears & what my ears tell me, But while i was demoing the SBS crossover i was telling Shorty that i love how it makes my speaker stacks sound, like one unit, as appose to 3 separate componets. If by using the 18 DB Butterworth slopes it help to give that one big speaker sound the unit does that 100% in my setup. How it makes the tweeters sound thats one thing that stuck out most to me about the SBS crossover
I have had my system setup with two differnet crossover since i started, an DSX 3000 & a Ashly xl 2001. Im currently using the Ashly because i like the sound i get with that unit over what i was getting out of the DSX 3000. Not that either unit is better than one another but more of what my ears prefer.
The SBS unit gave my system an whole other sound that the Ashly & DSX did not & could not get (maybe someone else could get them to sound like the SBS but i can't at this time)
The SBS S3X was too DAMM quiet at Idol, LOL When we stop playing music i thought the system was off it was so quiet. The Master was on 6. The pots were set to Low@11oclock full@12oclock tweeters@1oclock. The cd had stopped playing & we were on the main dance floor when it went off. b4 we were about to go put another cut on we both said at the same time. DAMM that thing is quiet.

Since Shorty left, and they implemented the changes, my hearing is definitely suffering.I really notice it when I go on both friday and saturday.I'm OK on the Friday, but everything sounds muffled on Saturday, I can't hear the low beats at all. Time for ear plugs. Sigh.
Fred Bissnette, Another Stereo client That comments on the current sound system in Club Stereo, in Montreal Canada:
I..ve never heard anything better than shortys work at Stereo, I..ve heard the room when it was shorty System, and ive heard it now that its digital and i liked the analog best,
When shorty handled it, it was a very hi fi type sound like an old pair of bozak concert grands the bass still sounds ok, but the mid high and ultra high sections of the sound are really raw at the high spl levels and dont sound as natural. if it wasent for the push to analog the system would never have evolved into what it is and was.

Drift, Posts about his opinions on the SBS sound system Lotusoundbar Honolulu Hawaii:
.......i normally donít post, but i just want to put in my 2 cents here.....
......i have to agree with clubman5 "hearing with your own ears will be the best and most definite answer you can get!"
........for me, i have to take it one step further......before i was a dj/gearhead, i loved to dance (and still do)......in my book, the ultimate test of a system is if it can get your feet moving......and in the end, thatís what most club systems are designed for anyway.......
.......the same record can sound completely different on two systems (the difference between blah and making the hairs on the back of your neck stand up) the system makes all the difference in the world(dj aside)....and like a good chef.........you can give them all the same ingredients and have a come up with different dishes..............of gear+room acoutstics+installation and tuning..........in the end it comes down to something un-quantifiable.....that spark or magic which cant really be explained.....which has the ability to move you or not....
........and now to my point......(sorry it took so long)....I never had a chance to make it out to Stereo in Montreal to hear Shorty's install, but did have the chance to go to LOVE in the west village and hear Gary's system a few times.......I recently returned home to Hawaii, and low and behold.....A SBS rig in Honolulu........
............proof is in the pudding (aka...sweat factor).........and the pudding i prefer would be shorty's.....a hot evening on the dance floor was enough to make my lazy ass write this long post.....
......I agree however that taste in sound is subjective.....but that's my say on this debate......aloha
Duron Tarik Comments on the SBS System and Thrive Audio Isolator at SBNY
I went to Splash Bar NYC last night to meet up with SBS "Shorty" to hear one of his jobs around the NY/NJ area & i am now trully one of his disiples. The sound of that place which Shorty himself calls an entry level sound system was insane. The rich, sweet sound was heard all around the club. I heard classics that i hear all the time & that me my self have just played on my on clubs system & they sounded like whole new version. Like i was live in the studio when they were making them. The sound seem to come from nowhere but was everywhere. At no time did i have to yell to talk & when i left it was like i was never in a club, my ears were fine (no ringing).
Nelson "Paradise" Roman was laying down the classics so smooth & it really freaked me out to see him mixing off the room speakers instend of the two EAW monitors he had right in front of him. He handle the system like the tru champ he is.
I have been to alot of clubs, bars & lounges in the NY/NJ area. But last night showed me that 90% of the places that i think sound good or great only sound good & great compared to the sound that we are being givin these days by these sound installers. Shorty has stepped up the bar on sound quality & took it back to what so many of us have forgot exists.
I for one thx you SHORTY for bringing back quality sound.

AUSOME thread haha. Some good systems have been mentioned, butt the #1 of the moment goes to Lotus Soundbar in Honolulu. Designed by Shorty with all the handmade Thrive Audio amps and the EQ isolator in the DJ booth. You don't even need a monitor you can feel the room that well.:
You nerds should peep Lotus ASAP. And DJ's, it was by far the most enjoyable experience I had performing. Not having a monitor took some getting used to, butt with the wall of Thrive Audio amps to the right, it was entrancing just looking over there at the curved array of LEDs to keep the levels right.:

I visited the Lotus a few weeks ago and got to listen to the Shorty's work and let me tell you it is tight!!! I met the wonderful folks of the establishment.....Paul and the crew big shouts from San Francisco!!!
Now back to the system, I got to hear the system at a low level and it is very crisp, clear and tight! It reminded me of a bedroom with klipsh la scala's, old school cerwin vega v1000 earthquakes.....crisp highs, clear midrange, bass that goes through your body and spaciousness (close your eyes in the middle of the floor and you can 'see' where the performers are at in the recording).....now bring that sound quality along with lots of custom gear to a club scale dayyymmm! The leds on the amps blipped on the first dot only and I can imagine what the system would sound like! I cant wait to visit Honolulu again and listen to the system at full stretch....wine, women, and a whole lot of songs!!Wonderful work Shorty!! Good wishes to your vision Paul!V:

Go in, Go up... Ohhh!! You found it!Club G-Spot : Review and picturesby Plui, Oct 31st 06, 21:13 | permalink:
A low-pitch rumble becomes a heavier thud as the lift ascends to the 4th Floor of No. 1 Huai Hai Zhong Lu. The elevator doors open to a chorus line of "Huan yin guang ling" girls flanked on either side by some well-suited heavy-hitters. Behind them a wall glows with coloured strips of LED much like the "Scratch 'n Sniff"/tasting wall at the entry to Willy Wonka's top-secret candyland in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" but with a darker twist - The real difference is that this factory is all about eye and ear candy, and it's no longer a secret: It's Club G-Spot.:
And that's just the foyer! Enter the main room and head toward the dance floor - that low-pitched thud becomes a downright thump thump thump. There's table seating, as well as booths overlooking the dance floor, all lined with a plush purple carpeted wall with circular light rings cut into the design. Form meets function here as the carpeted wall effectively reduces the reverberation in the massive main room. Left of the bar is more raised table-seating and access to another room that acts as both a VIP room or a second dance area with its own bar and DJ booth and retractable wall on bigger nights.:
It's opening night and John Digweed is flown in to flex the beats on the new "Systems By Shorty" (SBS) creation - a 4-tower gargantuan arranged to saturate sound in the club's sweet-spot: G-Spot's G-Spot is in the middle of all 4 towers right under the large mirror ball... Head there for some bassbin bliss - it's flooded with bass. The speaker enclosures themselves throw the beats directly onto the dance floor so it's actually possible to stand near any of the towers and still carry out a conversation on just about anything.:
The conversation/controversy in the SmartShanghai forum leading up to the opening night was not entirely unfounded - the SBS system rocks it hard, it's very powerful without being loud on the ears. As for the eyes, the combination of multi-colored wall cutouts and ceiling effects along with the massive LED wall behind the DJ booth drench G-Spot with an 80s "Blade Runner" hazy glow.:
The "Blade Runner" effect is carried out through the long, black-marbled corridors that lead to the KTV section of the club that effectively occupies about one-third of G-Spot's 2,000 sq/m of space. The halls are bathed in a red glow of lights and mirrors leading to any one of the 8 pimped out KTV rooms. These rooms hold up to 50 and have audio/video feeds from the main dance floor that can be over-ridden with KTV audio. A closer inspection of the club's floor plan reveals a suspicious 9th private room separate from the rest, and one can only imagine what goes on in there... :

pchubu a clubber, comments on the SBS Gspot system:
Went out to catch the much-vaunted system by Shorty and left duly impressed. I'd venture to say that the system at GSpot is definitely on par with the Phazon soundsystems used at Twilo (NY) Womb (Tokyo). You have to be on the dancefloor to get a proper feel for the system, and if on the dancefloor you get transparent sound across the whole frequency spectrum. If the DJs technique is crap and the CUE/PRG tracks aren't in lockstep - there's no place to hide with the sound so clear. No muddiness and you definitely don't get the tinniness that you sometimes hear from digital systems. Warm, full, voluminous bass that fills the floor and kicks squarely with real punch. Spent a good amount of time just standing in front of the stacks feeling the sound and the system. Awesome. It's been a while since I last experienced a system that pushed sound like this one can. It's inarguably Shanghai's best system. I hope they keep a tight music-program that covers a wide range of Dance/Electronica and DJs/musicians both local/abroad.:
I'm no fan of minimal electro, but the system makes music from that genre sound good and even compelled me to dance to it. I'm convinced you could play John Tesh or Yanni and the system would manage to make even them sound goood.:
I was told that Shorty'll be back at GSpot on a regular basis to tune the system. Impressive. Glad that nearly all sofas/tables are on the side and out of view (for the most part). As it gives the diceplayers and scenesters who aren't there to contribute to the party/vibe a place on the fringes and the serious punters a place to soak in the sound.:
I give Digweed a B. Some phenomenal and blinding tunes here and there, but the sum didn't exceed the individual parts. Choppy and disjointed flow at times as the programming wasn't as tight as Ive heard him capable of in times past. Functional, straightforward mixing that got the job done.:
A good mix of local and foreign clientele with most of the locals sat on the sidelines and the foreigners situated around the bar/dancefloor or on the dancefloor.:
