About Me

It all began in early 1990,Rob James was just eighteen at the time when his best friend asked if he wanted to learn how to DJ and buy some DJ equipment."I thought he was crazy at the time but I also thought it would be something interesting to learn".They split the cost on some new turntables and a cheap mixer and they tought themselves how to beat mix.It was then that Rob had discovered his love of music and DJing and that he had a real talent for mixing.Soon they were throwing parties in his friends basement with 300 or more people before being shut down by the local authorities. It was at these parties that Robs love for House music had developed". After the house parties,Rob landed a few local club gigs around town and was spinning mobile DJ gigs to make ends meet.At the same time Rob was promoting, attending and DJing at various parties and raves throughout New York.Places like Limelight,Caffiene Roxy,Carbon ect..are where Rob found himself spinning with DJ's like Frankie Knuckles David Morales,Deep Dish,Cevin Fisher,Baby Hec Romero,Joeski,Onionz,Frankie Bones,James Christian and Micro, just to name a few. By 1995 Rob started buying studio equipment and learning how to produce with the help of friends and roomates at that time,Razor and Guido."Guido was very supportive and helped me with my first remix ever..."Funkytown".While still learning in the studio Rob was also developing his DJ career, holding down club residencies in New York,New Orleans and Philladelphia. The late nineties were an explosive time for Rob James.Rob was helping (along with some friends)to develop an afterhours scene on Long Island which lead to one of his most well known residencies "Freedom"."Freedom" was the legendary afterhours spot in the Hamtons known to rock into the early afternoon with 1300+ people with Rob behind the decks all morning.Rob also held down a residencies at places like one of New Yorks most notorious clubs,"Sound Factory" where he spun with DJ's like..Bad Boy Bill,Cevin Fisher,Felix the Housecat,Roger Sanchez,Derek Carter and many more. By the turn of the century Rob had found himself teaming up with friend Matt Licatta to form "S.O.L.I.S.".The team soon sold their first release "Dolphins",which was released on Dot Dot Dot records and later remixed and released overseas on Additive records (UK) and Alien recordings (Netherlands). The team also remixed "Roaches" by the Trancesetters, which was also released on Dot Dot Dot records. Later on Rob James teamed up with another friend,KC Anderson to form "The Burlington Boys" which lead to their hit,"Im Rick James".Although never officially released,"Im Rick James" gained popularity throughout clubland. Rob is no stranger to Radio either. In 1998 Rob was the first DJ to have a mixshow on the popular Long Island radio station Party 105.His 2 hour afterhours show ran every Saturday night from 4 to 6 am for over 3 years.Rob continues to do guest spots on various stations and has even branched out to do guest spots on satelite radio. Today Rob continues to rock clubs around the world while still finding time to keep busy in the studio and creating his own productions and remixes.Rob also keeps busy promoting, supporting and DJing House music venues and events throughout New York. Recently,Rob started a new underground house music party every Thursday on Long Island called "Movement".This party is dedicated to underground house music and DJ's and has seen many talented DJ's rock the dance floor such as Jon Cutler,DJ Romain,Ruben Toro,Joeski,Mr.V and many Long Island legends such as Sameer,Derek Sessions,Dennis Fernando,Tony Troffa,Mike Sarkus and many more. This latest venture is making quit a buzz in the industry and its just getting started. Weather you have heard one of Rob's DJ sets or played one of his productions,or more recently been to one of his parties, you will quickly realize Rob James is one of the best DJ talents New York has to offer Changes may take up to 2 mins to show on your profile
