About Me

San Francisco DJ and producer Kuze has been into music since the beginning, and was raised on classical and jazz. Under the tutelage of world-renowned instructor Erna Gulabyan, he was able to explore music outside the traditional norms of American piano lessons. Upon discovery, he immediately connected with the mathematical structures of Johann Sebastian Bach, and the surreal artistic nature of Claude Debussy. He was with Gulabyan for over 10 years before it was time for a break. After hearing the Chemical Brothers on local radio one fateful night in 1993, there was no turning back. Kuze soon found out about other dance music forms and has since become known equally as both a house and drum n bass DJ. He counts LTJ Bukem as his primary DJ influence, along with San Francisco legend Jeno and international superstar Danny Tenaglia. No sub-genre is left untouched in Kuze's house sets, as he regularly fuses together deep, acid, electro, tribal, and techno sensibilities. For drum n bass, Kuze remains on the more musical side of the spectrum, focusing on deep, rolling, and atmospheric vibes.Kuze holds several residencies in San Francisco and other select cities. Every Friday at Matador he hosts SICK!, a house and techno weekly. He is a regular at the wildly popular Qool happy hour parties and performs at a variety of venues around the City, often at intimate Anu - one of San Francisco's best DJ bars. Over the course of his career, Kuze has performed headlining sets in Europe, Canada, and throughout the United States (including Ultra Music Festival at Miami WMC) alongside numerous top acts in both house and drum n bass. Additionally, he visited Burning Man for the first time this year, lodging with Vertical Camp, a 6-story condominium and the only camp to be featured on Current TV. Kuze had plenty of opportunities to play his music, highlighted by multiple nights riding deep playa on the Garage Mahal art car and pre-dinner for his camp mates. On top of gigging a few times each week, Kuze is editor and publisher of Nitewise, an online magazine distributed to over 150,000 Bay Area residents. He is active in the production studio with a few completed tracks, remixes and much more on the way.
