Hani - (Bio 2006)
Hani is a prolific New York based DJ/Producer/Remixer who has maintained an appeal in both underground and commercial circles.
Djing at the age of 15 is when this journy into sound all began .In 93’ Hani got his start as a Producer doing underground Acid House tracks for Carl Craig’s Label (Planet-e) and Deep Dish’s (Yoshitoshi). In 94, Hani started his remix career working on projects for Artists such as Deee-Lite,Repercussions & Urban Soul. In 95’ Hani got well known for his seductive & unauthorized remix of Sade’s "I Never Thought I’d See the Day" (a.k.a. Musk Men). Today he is best known for his dance-chart toping work for Alicia Keys,Justin Timberlake Missy Elliot & Christina Aguilera.
Hani is as direct and methodical as he is talented. His take-charge approach to the music business has enabled him to achieve success in an extremely competitive industry. Although Hani had been playing various instruments, collecting records & Djing since he was very young, it was not until after he concluded his studies in audio engineering and then a job at the legendary Bass Hit Studios (NYC) that Hani acquired a deeper sense of dance music by wokring for such dance music luminaries as Masters @ Work, Roger Sanchez & Danny Tenaglia.
From the beginning, Hani’s approach to the business of remixing has been unusual. Instead of waiting for offers, Hani worked on songs that he was attracted to - for his own pleasure - and on his own initiative. After transforming a track into a dance floor gem, Hani would then offer the completed remix to the song’s original label. Although his was a risky approach, the quality of Hani’s output was brilliant and, naturally, labels started to take notice. Toward the end of 1995, Hani transformed and initiated the release of tracks like Michael Jackson’s "Earth Song", which stayed six weeks at number one on U.K. charts and Sting’s "Sister Moon", a floor-filling white-label-turned-official by Simon Dunmore of AM-PM at the time. Hani’s passion for creating music became a steadfast career in the summer of 1996 with the release of his first No:1 Billboard production "Soul To Bare" with house diva Joi Cardwell. Must also mention one of Hani’s most popular remix work "That Look"-Delacy and off course "Oxygene 8", (commissioned by Jean Michele Jarre himself).
One of the great rewards of Hani’s new found ’name-to-look-out-for’ status was an invitation to collaborate with house music master Frankie Knuckles on a remix project. "He’s one person who really impressed me, because there’s a certain sound in what he does that I think is really really interesting. I like the touch that he has", Frankie acknowledges.
1997 saw the birth of hit remixes like Jay Z’s "Can’t Knock The Hustle", The massive radio hit "One More Night" by Amber & famous white label’s such as "Rocket Man" by Elton John &Pink Floyd vs. Underworld "Brown Acid".
For Hani, one of the highlights of 1998 was being approached by Jeff Wayne (conductor and producer of the 1978 concept album "War of the Worlds") to remix one of Hani’s all time favorite cuts "Eve Of The War". By 1999, Hani’s attempt at production paid off with the release of "Baby Wants To Ride", which marks his second No:1 Billboard production (knocking Madonna off the top spot).
Hani’s steady attention and effort toward his projects had earned him a fantastic reputation among the dance music ranks. That year witnessed the creation of such hits as "Drugs Are Bad" Hani vs. South Park , "Share the Love" by Arista artist Andrea Martin and the remarkable "Tuva Groove" by Ondar . In addition,we cant forget the international blue label smash remix to Anggun’s "Secret Of The Sea" .
In 2000 the commercial success of Hani’s remix of "There You Go" (Pink), "Glorious" (Andreas Johnson), and Deborah Cox’s number one Billboard dance anthem "I Never Knew" cemented Hani’s position as one the top remixers in the US. True to Hani’s style, Arista had no plans for Deborah’s song until Hani decided to transform the slow balled/album filler track into a major dance hit. Hani’s humble nature and perfectionist tendencies have allowed his songs to speak for themselves and they continue to be met with great success. Although he is increasingly well known by record labels with each project, Hani insists upon transforming tracks on his own initiative. His Beatles remix of "Eleanor Rigby" was so well done that Hani was complimented by Capitol Records executives personally and was such an innovative idea that it was quick to be copied.
In 2003, Hani’s Knight Keys project released on Yoshitoshi has been featured on Deep Dish’s Toronto compilation. Soon After, Hani’s leaked remix/mash-up of Justin Timberlake’s "Cry Me A River vs. Let it Whip" has been so widely appreciated by the masses that it secured heavy radio play in 25 major cities around the U.S. and is already one of the most sought after remixes of 2003. Shortly after, his remix of "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera followed the same success formula of Justin’s "Cry Me a River".
In 2004 Hani Scored his Third No:1 Billboard production with "Foolish Mind Games" by Jason Walker. Moreover, his remix of Alicia keys "Diary" was an instant club/radio hit. Eventualy It became Hani’s Tenth Number 1 Billboard remix
Due to Download sites like Beatport & iTunes , In 06’ Hani was encouraged to launch his own label Soterios dedicated solely to Hani’s own Productions . The first release is the monster "Must be That Sound" w/Roland Clark . The Latest 7th release on Soterios is "Middle of The Night"with former Arista artistAndrea Martin. Latest remix efforts include work for Justin Timberlake "My Love" & Christina Aguilera"Hurt". Both have toped the Billboard Club Chart.
Stay Tuned.
