About Me

Sam was born and raised in the small town of Middleport, Ohio. A working class community nestled in the Ohio hills along the beautiful Ohio River. It was here that he discovered that he was destined to sing. At a very young age he began singing in a small Baptist church and soon began to develop his voice through constant practice and lessons. By the age of 15 he was leading the choir in his small church, had become proficient in other instruments and was eager to set out into the world as a singer/songwriter.After graduating high school he immediately moved to Nashville, TN and it was there that he was moved by the raw emotion and energy that was displayed by the talented musicians performing in the city. “I felt at home.” Sam says “I remember listening to artists play in the round at the Bluebird for the first time and being so amazed by the collaboration and talent that these individuals had. People who had written big hits and had enjoyed the success of seeing their songs reach the top of the charts.” At this time he was living in a run down apartment in West Nashville and working as a waiter to make ends meet. “I had a big piano in my small little bedroom, and that was all I needed at the time. My roommate, also a musician, was a talented guitar player who was also struggling to get noticed but was writing amazing songs. His songs were really my first big inspiration to really write about my life whether what I was going through was good or bad.” explained Sam. I eventually left Nashville to go back to school to study Music. “It was a very small school” says Sam “and I was a big fish in a little pond, but I had bigger dreams and they weren’t happening fast enough in Ohio.” So he and his brother made a decision together and moved west to Los Angeles, CA.“Los Angeles is where I have written the bulk of my work. It is here that I have now lived the longest in my adult life, and it is here that I have found much to write about.” explained Sam. Living in Hollywood, working in restaurants to get by, he has gone through many changes in his life. “Hollywood is fun, scary, crazy at times, beautiful and ugly, and is always changing. Like me, I guess I learned to find some relative explanation for why I chose to stay here this long. This city is a hard place to be when times are tough financially, and it is a long way from home.” Says Sam. He began recording his first demo “Piano” in the Spring of 2004. “I was at a place in my life where I was inspired all the time to write, it was a good place to be at the time. After completing the demo I felt like I had accomplished something that was very special. I wasn’t just writing songs for the sake of trying to write hits, I was writing about my life experiences for what they were at the time and It was very therapeutic to do this and to make something out of it that was what I believe is artistic. The demo “Piano” is still just a demo but there will come a time when I will be able to breath new light into it again.”Sam had to set aside his first demo for awhile while he attended Culinary School to become a Chef. “Restaurant work has always been a part of my life, and I found my passion in being a Chef. It is something that I live and breath everyday just as much as music.” Says Sam. Though while in school fulltime, he still was writing. Soon after graduating he began a new career and still experienced ups and downs. “Though people were amazed by my food, I found it difficult to find a job that pays really well. I was sick of restaurants by this time, so I lucked into a job that was part time hours and was able to find a few clients on the side to keep me busy. A lot was going on in my personal life, and long relationship was coming to an end. I was writing a lot at the time and though I didn’t know it at the time, I was writing very personal lyrics about what I was going through in my relationship.” Explained Sam. “Roses” was recorded in 2007 and consisted of 10 songs, two more than the previous demo. “Like the last demo, I recorded it in a live setting in the studio with really only one or two takes for each song. I’ve always been playing and singing at the same time while I record. So when I went back and took out the vocals on two of the songs a re-recorded them separately, I was really satisfied with how it sounded. So much goes into recording an album, and that is what I really am going for this time. I need to do this for myself in order to feel like I have completed my goals musically.”Sam is currently about to begin a second run in the studio with the demo “Roses”. “I am living in desert part time now and am renting a beautiful piano. I want to retouch all of my work since 2001 and make a new album from it. I am excited about what I have accomplished and feel that I would be cheating myself to just stop here. All of my songs are very special to me and all of them deserve to be produced and arranged in the best light possible.” You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !
