I have been playing music all my life, since the age of two, when I started playing the violin back in good ol' Cleveland, Ohio. I progressed to drums, guitar, bass, piano, recorder, pots and pans, oscar mayer weenie whistle......(you get the point right?)......as I got older. Halfway during my senior year of high school, the band that I was playing drums for flew out to california, recorded a demo, and started touring the country. We had the time of our lives, and I decided that no matter what, I wanted to make music for the rest of my life.
The band broke up due to.....ummmmm.....artistic differences......or something like that, but I still found myself waking up every morning wanting nothing more than to perform music for people. It's my passion in life.
So, I got a bunch of crappy day jobs, worked my butt off back there in Cleveland (C-town for all the hip kids out there) and decided I was going to move to Hollywood. I recorded an 11 song demo in my basement and after about six months of saving up money, I kissed my mother goodbye and came to tinseltown.
After four months of being here I signed a management contract with Alliance Group Entertainment. We began pursuing a record deal, only to be shot down by.....well....everyone, but dont you worry, we didn't get discouraged! We eventually created our own label; "Alliance Records"
So, they put me into the studio, where I spent about a month recording, producing, performing and mixing the 11 songs that would become my debut album "Broken Hearts and Fairytales". This album is very important to me. I spent a great deal of time writing it, and I know a lot of artists babble about how "real" their albums are, but I swear to god, this thing is flippin real. If you dont believe me, look at my top 8 and talk to "Sara" shes my ex girlfriend and 80 percent of these songs are about her. (She might kill me for posting that, but oh well) So anyway, this album is pretty much like a child to me. Now fast forward to present time, beginning of 2006. The record is done, and all of a sudden after performing a bunch of high profile shows around the L.A. area with my band, all of these record executives are calling us back, who could imagine?!?!?!
So you're thinking, oh, heres the part where he leaves his roots at Alliance Records and goes off and leaves for some huge corporation where they make him do his hair different and wear reebok shoes right? Wrong buddy. We proceeded to reject their offers, and are releasing to the world "Broken Hearts and Fairytales" by ourselves, with assistence from myspace.com, cdbaby.com, bestbuy.com, towerrecords.com, and a few other choice websites. I couldn't bring myself to sign this album away to a major label after they passed on it not even six months ago. I'm not saying that I never will, I mean, I might do it next week or something, but hey, wouldnt it just be so refreshing to see someone succeed in this music industry just because people liked his music? Not because some corporation dumped a boatload of money into making sure his picture was on every wall from here to Russia, and making sure that the song was played 8000 times a day on every radio station?
Dont get me wrong, I would love for those things to happen, but I want them to happen because you guys truely love the music, and if you don't, I can accept that because the disc itself makes a great coaster for your coffee table!
Soooooo, to sum this all up, check out my jams, and if they move you, pick up my record.
I promise it wont dissapoint you. Thanks alot for your time everybody.
