Far From Saints

Just Your Average Baby Faced Badasses

About Me

Far From Saints became a band just a little over two years ago. It all started when singer JP Cabral and Guitarist Matt Broughton (now known as Scrub) met at a house party which was being thrown by a mutual friend of theirs. With a couple of acoustic guitars kicking around the two newly aquainted pals, both being musicians, decided to jam out and see what would come of it. It was like magic at first strum and they were both incredibly excited about what they had begun to create. The two knew instantly that they wanted to do this in front of a live crowd. One problem ... they needed a full band.
After much searching the two became flustered with finding a drummer and a bassist to complete the band. In place of a much needed percussionist, while brainstorming, JP decided he would head down to the nearby music store to purchase a drum machine. He couldn't have chosen a better day to do so as he arrived to find and hear a baby faced boy shredding it up on guitar. JP was impressed and so he approached the blonde haired, blue eyed youngling and told him that what he heard was great. The kid modestly thanked him for the compliment and continued to tell the singer that he was actually a drummer. He told JP his name was Seamus and shook his hand with a quick "nice to meet you". JP grabbed the chance to ask Seamus if he was interested in playing in a band and the boy was no less than stoked at the idea. They exchanged numbers and when asked his age, Seamus quietly answered that he was only 15 years old and was obviously frightened that the singer would no longer want him to come and jam with him and Scrub. A few days later the three (still missing a bass player) got together at a local jamspace. Within the first few minutes of playing, JP and Scrub were blown away by this wide eyed teens percussive prowess and immediately recognized the kid for what he was.... a prodigy. The three jelled incredibly well and hit it off fantastically on a social level. They still needed a bass player though and times were getting desperate seeing as they were scheudled to hit up the studio in only little more than two weeks to record their first demo.
Once again the boys were eventually struck with luck and with only five days left until the studio, while at pool hall, JP and Scrub met 21 year old Matt McCallum who had been playing in local bands since the age of thirteen. They explained their situation and Matt jumped at the opportunity saying that he woud be more than happy to go into the studio with them. The next day the four met and played as a full band for the first time. The sound that they created together was amazing and they instantly knew they had something special. They all meshed so well both musically and as friends and with the four of them all being in quite some trouble at one time or another (more stories to tell for another time), it was undeniable that the name of the band would be Far From Saints. The studio was a success and so FFS began their journey booking shows in North Vancouver in the hopes of someday making it with their music.
Far From Saints has now built quite a strong fan base on the North Shore and in these past few months they have begun to build a fast growing following in Vancouver's downtown scene playing shows at places such as The Roxy, The Buffalo Club, The Lamplighter, and The Picadilly Pub. People know them for their wild, unpredictable, and enternaining stage prescence and music that has a sound of its own. These boys love to entertain and they love nothing more than making great music. Far From Saints will keep on pumping out great songs and will continue to grow not only as a band but as what they think of as a family.
