About Me

Well, my real name is the same of one of the biggest American writers in history. Unlike his marvelous oeuvre, for instance The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym or The Raven, I haven’t even a mere diary. Like him, journalism has been part of my professional life but, to be honest, my stories have almost been tedious and soporific.I come from a country where surrealism is everywhere. I think that makes it curious but delightful, complicated but surprising, unpredictable but vivid. If you have listened to talk about Machupicchu or The land of The Incas, so, you’ve got it. I am from Peru but you should know that beautiful landscapes and lovely traditional food are as important as Peru’s 5000-year cultural heritage.I always wanted to be a sport-journalist although I don’t like sports so much. Well,I have always reckoned that it had let me travel very much covering games, events and sorts like these. Nevertheless, I have been involved in current-affairs news since I started as a reporter at a local radio station in Lima when I was 17 years old (later, I jumped to some radio and TV stations always as a reporter). In Latin-America, current affairs must be inferred as covering topics such as corruption, terrorism, political persecution, coups, social crisis, the mafia, crime and so on. I have no regrets. It has been an instructive experience. So, by inertia, I became interested in politics and social topics.Everyone has their Stone Age. I had one. Once I hold quixotic dreams about a better world perhaps because I was influenced by nostalgic ideas and dreamers. The good thing was that that motivated me to go back to the class and obtain my second bachelor degree, one in Sociology at San Marcos Mayor Public State University in Lima. Certainly, I wanted to know about the “rules” that govern the world but I was a bit naïve. There are no “rules”; the world is a complete pandemonium. Nevertheless, the dreams haven’t disappeared. They have just become mellowed. I have a pretty basic outlook on life which I sum up in this old Chinese proverb: “If you have a problem and it has not a solution, why are you worried about?. If you have a problem and it has a solution, so why are you worried about?”. I believe that explore, discover and experience are the three imperatives in life in order to know about ourselves and they imply that we should be willing to drink from every glass and cross all the possible frontiers.Well, I think I have to stop writing. Anyway, thanks for being part of this little adventure by reading it. Don't forget that "A journey of thounsand miles begins with a single step".RegardsAkultura.

I'd like to meet:

After being in Australia to study English, I realised that a mere course was not enough to improve my skills in a second language. I thought that writing some reviews in Myspace would help me about it, but, little by little, my liking for music and my need to express myself about this matter, became stronger and more important. Moreover, as journalist, it is hard to stop writing and telling stories.Well, after this introduction, I must say that I would like to meet people who want to share news, opinions etc about bands and music. Of course I hope my friends in Peru, Australia, New Zealand and everybody around the world could participate in this as well.

LOVE OF DIAGRAMS-Mosaic (Matador, 2007)

At first, Australian Love of Diagrams could make you think about another 80's post-punk band just reunited for one last musical exhalation. Far from coming to the end, the sound-like-eighty band has ...

THE LONG BLONDES-Someone to Drive You Home (Rough Trade, 2007 American release)

There is something in Kate Jackson, The Long Blonde's lead vocal, that reminds me Blondie's Deborah Harry and even Gwen Stefani (when she was part of No Doubt, of course). I do not know exactly what ...

THE NATIONAL-Boxer (Beggars Banquet, 2007)

Few albums appear in the right place at the right time and Boxer is perhaps one of them. After the celebrated Alligator (2005), this The National's new work maintains the intoxicating and penetrating...

LAURA VEIRS-Saltbreakers (Nonesuch records, 2007)

It seems that Americana and Nu-folk have been open doors for new talent, particularly female ones, in the last decade. The catalogue includes bands such as Calexico and singer/songwriters such a...

THE HIDDEN CAMERAS- Awoo (Arts and Crafts, 2006)

If you have not listened to any "gay church folk music" band yet, let The Hidden Cameras be the first. Well, its not all about the "eclectic" auto-definition that Joel Gribb, singer and songwriter, m...

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB-Baby 81 (RCA/BMG, 2007)

After their unexpectedly bluesy Howl (2005), many thought that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club had smoothed their sound. Well, Baby 81, their last recording, may partly change that idea. The album seems ...

IM FROM BARCELONA-Let Me Introduce my Friends (Mute records, 2007)

Some could underestimate the no-frills and apparent basic indie-pop of this mob. But, thinking carefully, simplicity may be used, at times, as synonym for tenderness in terms of music. This seems to ...
