Turn up your volume for Tommy's Gone To Play!!

About Me

Finally got AIM. My screen name is "willslaten"

I've been a guitar player for about 12 years and should be a hell of alot better than I am, but eh. I've never really been good about learning the other artists songs; really I just like messing around and orchestrating songs out of whatever weird thing I can think to do to a guitar today. So.. hmmm, not really a whole lot more applies to this page other than a place for me to stick the songs that I've recorded so that I don't have to make CDs for all of my friends, because, you know, they are always begging me to let them have my newest stuff as they cannot live without it (Right... that would be sarcasm there. I haven't seen my best friend in, like, two weeks...). There was a point to this, I just know it. Oh yeah.

Let's hear what the critics think:

"What? No... I haven't listened to it yet. "
Dad
"I like it.... it's non-intrusive. I play it all the time at the coffee bar and people always ask me who it is. I think they like it."
Mom
"My wife show tooth. This great cigarette rock but no happy loud. Bring sad smile to you free today!!"
Hiroki (Maxim Magazine intern)
"Your music is beautiful and relaxing... You're very creative. I've got your music playing here in the airport on my way to NYC again. So peaceful and full of emotion."
Kate Starr
"I think people are really going to tune in to this. It's ambience... but ballsy."
Lindsey Hammond (Ontario, Canada)
"I laughed all the way through your site!! I hate Guitars!! Why do I love this? Love what you do!! it took 50 years but at last someone is finally doing something different with a guitar!!"
Skully (from the band Metisse )
"I think that it's amazing that you do all of this without a synth. Seeing you create these beautiful sonic sound scapes with an acoustic and an electric guitar makes it that much more accessible."
Mike Oldfield (Clarksville, TN)

If you comment or write, expect a reply unless you state you'd prefer to be whipped with a sock full of chicken fat rather than hear back from me ( come to think of it, I prefer that sock to most things, but that's me.) So enjoy. Or, you know, don't and I'm sorry.

PS~ You may feel it necessary to comment on my excessive use of italics. Well... I just so happen to like italics, thank you...

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: For existing material ~ Guitars, Bass, Vocals (if you are amazing low in luck), Drums, Harmonica, Piano, Mucker-Abouter, and LOTS of other crap - Will Slaten
Future Material ~ In the process of recruiting musicians for live performances and possibly future recordings. Currently giving them their "road trials". I will post their names as they are officially added (too much of a pain to post every trial runner-up).
Influences: Sigur Ros, Poet Named Revolver, Beck, Jeff Buckley, The Flaming Lips, Pinback, Chris Whitley, Dirty Three, Modest Mouse, Bob Dylan, Thaxton Ward, Imogen Heap aka froofroo, Children of Bodom, Josh Rouse, Forget Cassettes, Radiohead (what? really? Nooo... YOU'VE HEARD OF THEM?!?), The Golden Gears, The Eels, Hope for a Golden Summer, Aphex Twin, Beatles, Ben Harper, Bjork, Clem Snide ("You Were A Diamond" in particular), Grandaddy, Lemonheads, Postal Service, Ben Kweller, Richard Marx, Jump Little Children, Rufus Wainright, The Beta Band (3 EPs), Weezer, The Smiths, Polyphonic Spree, and other such snobby music choices that I say like YOU'VE never heard of (but of course, you have because suddenly the indy scene is the new tragically hip playground. People seem to have a way nowadays of knowing who a band is before they've ever even heard of them)

Notice has been taken

Just recently, I was browsing through my friends list and noticed something. I've got a particularly large amount of attractive female fans. Not that I'm complaining. I've actually devised a theory ba...

Progress Smogress

Just been relaxing a little lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been recording. So far, these last three weeks have produced 8 new (albeit very rough) tracks that are being put on CD as we speak a...

"Tommy's Gone To Play" in progress

If you've listened to any of my disjointed bulletin rants about this song in the last 5 months, you probably know that the version on our page right now is a sampler of the background track I was work...

I said "discombobulated" again! YAY!!

Oh, great. The Comp-U-Hut wants another $220 to replace the motherboard and proccessor. It's a good thing I'm so famous and make all this money playing music, or I'd start to get worried.. right.... ...

The Adventures of Discombobulated Man: Chapter 6

Jesus. I just spent $611.32 on getting my computer fixed so we can begin recording again. It wouldn't be so bad if I actually got to leave the place with more than a little tiny piece of paper. Oh, an...

Random Things That Are

As I've gone for quite a while without writing or saying anything in a blog, I figured it's time to change things up. Yeehaa! But because I'm lazy (so very very true), I'm only going to be writing in ...
