JEDA (pronounced Jetta - like the car...the spelling and pronunciation of my name has a long ridiculous story - it's really spelled Njeri -but it was always pronounce Injedda (don't ask) - so now I go by Jeda for ease of use and MF'S ! are still f-ing the $..!% up ...and I'm not happy about it....)
I LIKE MY MUSIC LIKE I LIKE MY MEN - don't matter the genre or the style as long as its HEART FELT & SOOTHING; or HOT & SEXY; FULL BODIED & LUSCIOUS; or BARE & HONEST....but always SINCERELY BEAUTIFUL and ABLE TO MOVE ME ! ! !
MY CD IS CALLED: COMING UNDONE...RETURN OF THE GODDESS - (of course...I'll B playing the part of the Goddess ! ! !). I hope it captures all that I stated above - one thing about me and music is that I am learning the concept KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). I have a hard time with this and this concept was not used at all in the production of this CD, especially for the vocals....I'm a LAYER FREAK ! and a ROCKER at Heart.
THIS ALBUM album for me is my secret wish list for paradigm shifts....it's my potion for my heart to heal and my soul to seal the ever present gaps that elude and confuse me; that cause me to lose love that should be swurlling around my body...my breath has been thin for far too long and I want to breath deeply....I want to see and want others to see the beauty that lies in the darkness, in the courseness, in the negative spaces that we all deny and hold back and hold outside of ourselves...."I was just trying to breath and feed my soul...I wasn't a bad girl...they just didn't know how to love me" ....Most folks on this planet just don't know how to love (really Love) someone who looks like me, feels like me, walks and talks like me, dreams like me, fears like me, grieves like me, moves like me....no matter how much people say they do (and they lie and they take bits and pieces and pimp it but they never appreciate the whole - look around you'll see)....This CD is for ME and every DARK girl who ever existed (and I ain't just talking skin tone - though that is definitely a part of it)...I'm talking the feminine mystique, the willfull fire, the earthly magic, the intuitive knowing, the heart felt desire to be FREE and LOVE ! ! !...."I was just trying to breath!"
Growing Up I was a Rhythm & Blues and Jazz Vocalist Whore ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! If it didn't Have a Belting-Heart-Felt Soulful Singer with PIPES (and perfect pitch) on it.....I wasn't interested......now...it's kinda the reverse.....I've evolved...still evolving.....EVOLUTION - The Silent REVOLUTION ! ! !
I am a singer/songwriter. When not working solo I also perform with the DC based band TRIFECTA (www.TheRealTRIFECTA.com) or (www.myspace.com/TRIFECTAmusicspace). I used to front the Electric Funk Band "ThePeople606".....that is 6 0 6 ....U freakin nut cases...and it obscurely is defined as representing HUMANITY.....no one ever got it, but they did get our T-shirst which by the way were FLY...occaisionally I'll catch folks sporting one.....
When I'm not writing or singing, I host an internet radio show called "Coming Undone" (www.ComingUndone.com) on www.IM4Radio.com...however, lately due to lack of motivation, an increasingly demanding schedule, and the desire to sleep in on Saturday mornings... I've been MIA....
