Music, animation, travel, my family and friends, cats (miau!), genetics, astronomy, extreme gardening and excessive amounts of coffee. And Cerebus. Gotta love Cerebus.
These are just a smattering if the things that grab my attention. I tend to soak up life. Is someting intriguing? Mentally challenging? Unique? Just point the way.
Your Power Color Is Red-Orange
At Your Highest: You are warm, sensitive, and focused on your personal growth.
At Your Lowest: You become defensive and critical if you feel attacked.
In Love: You are loyal - but you demand the respect you deserve.
How You're Attractive: You are very affectionate and inspire trust.
Your Eternal Question: "Am I Respected?"
What's Your Power Color?
Interesting people, especially fellow artists. I think my favourite aspect of MySpace is that it is a forum in which I can meet and befriend a wide variety of people, from fellow musicians and actors (particularly VO actors... as a singer I have a certain affinity for this craft) I admire a great deal, to up and coming artists in a number of genres, to authors and many others. A huge thanks to all of you who have accepetd my invitation or who have invited me! You are my friend because you are unique and fascinating.

First and foremost, opera. I was fortunate to grow up with an uncle who was a wonderful lyric baritone and he encouraged me to start singing. Although it wasn't until much later that I took his advice and began seriously working on my voice, I haven't looked back since. I'm presently working on Bizet, Handel and lots of Rossini. I've recently added Donizetti and Verdi to the mix as well (Yes! Bringin' out the big guns!) but I'm taking it wisely and slowly. No use in pushing the dramatic stuff too soon. Heck, I've got decades ahead of me to sing this repertoire. Other than my work/passion, I just love music overall as long as it is well written and performed.
My favourite non-classical performers/bands include XTC, Rosemary Clooney, k.d. lang, They Might Be Giants and The Smiths. I've recently dicovered The Dresden Dolls and am thoroughly enjoying their goodies as well. Aw, doesn't Emily look like she could be Amanda Palmer as a child? Cute!

Music in one form or another has been in my blood for as long as I can recall. Should it be shocking, then, that I am a card-carrying member of the Artists' Temperment Society? *sigh* When I was younger I put forth a lot of effort to fit in. I worked at the university career center while pursuing my masters degree in education, yet all the career indicator tests and personality profiles I took as part of my job kept coming up with "musician, musician, musician." Over time I have realized more and more that my personality is God-given. Instead of denying it, I choose to embrace and enhance the best parts of it so that I will be an asset rather than an albatross to those around me. I'm still a spitfire, but now with purpose.
You Have a Choleric Temperament
You are a person of great enthusiasm - easily excited by many things. Unsatisfied by the ordinary, you are reaching for an epic, extraordinary life. You want the best. The best life. The best love. The best reputation.
You posses a sharp and keen intellect. Your mind is your primary weapon. Strong willed, nothing can keep you down. Your energy can break down any wall. You're an instantly passionate person - and this passion gives you an intoxicating power over others.
At your worst, you are a narcissist. Full of yourself and even proud of your faults. Stubborn and opinionated, you know what you think is right. End of discussion. A bit of a misanthrope, you often see others as weak, ignorant, and inferior.
What Temperment Are You?
That being said, I officially declare this my theme song:
My top movies of all time, in no particular order: ANIMATION: Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, The Incredibles, The Triplets of Belleville. LIVE ACTION: Jesus de Montreal, The Chosen, Amadeus (director's cut), The Red Violin, Idlewilde, Dead Again.
Of course, the fact that I even included the results of this quiz should indicate that I'm quite fond of X-Men, but where to list this? Under "Interests" in the subcategory of "comics?" Or should it be in "Television" since I've seen both animated series--particularly X-Men: Evolution--way, WAY to much? Since this quiz is based on the films, however... well, let's just say it's only appropriate that my husband's results said he was Cyclops. Funny, as a performer I've always identified with Rogue...
You Are Jean Grey
Although your fate is often unknown, you always seem to survive (even after death). Your mind is your greatest weapon, literally!
Powers: telepathy and telekinesis, the ability to project thoughts into the mind of others, communication with animals
Which of the X-Men Are You?
ER, Law and Order (all of them), Good Eats, Iron Chef, pretty much anything on Cartoon Network (particularly Teen Titans and Xiaolin Showdown-I swear, if my husband had been born on a sprawling cattle ranch in Texas, he would actually BE Clay), Cardcaptor Sakura, Futurama, Danny Phantom, and The Tick (animated version).
Any and all television viewing in my house, by the way, is not complete without a cat or two on one's lap. They have come to be very special members of the family and my daughters absolutely adore them. My reaction to these quiz results, then? "Well, DUH!" Ya think my user name would give it away.
You Are: 0% Dog, 100% Cat
You are are almost exactly like a cat. You're intelligent, independent, and set on getting your way.
And there's no way you're going to fetch a paper for anyone!
Are You More Cat or Dog?
I'm currently reading: The Name of the Rose (Umberto Eco). Yes, I'm STILL reading it. Give a girl a break! I have two kids and a career!
I've recently read Digital Fortress, The Da Vinci Code, The Red Tent, Cry to Heaven, Goose Girl, The Westing Game, and all six novels by Sylvia Engdahl. By the way, she has a myspace profile and a website where her books may be purchased: http://www.sylviaengdahl.com/ . Believe me, you will want to read these!
All in all, I love to read. I admit that at this point in my life I don't get to do nearly as much of that as I'd like, but as long as I'm working my way through a quality piece of literature (albeit slowly), I'm happy.
Your Element Is Fire
Your passion and emotion are as obvious as the brightest flame.
You make sparks fly, and your passion always has the potential to burst out.
You are exciting and creative - and completely unpredictable.
You sometimes exercise control, and sometimes you let yourself go.
Friends describe you as sensitive, spirited, and compulsive.
Bright and blazing with intensity, you seem mysterious and moody to many.
What's Your Element?
- Marian Anderson, hands down my number one hero! The woman had courage, drive, integrity and a voice (according to Toscanini) that "comes along once every hundred years."
- Jessye Norman. I love not only her spectacular voice, but the intelligence and character she brings to to her work. I met her a few years ago after she sang Wagner's Wesendonk Lieder. Amazing. She took my hands in hers, looked into my eyes, and spoke with me as if I were the only other human being on earth. We discussed Berg's Sieben Fruhe Lieder which I was singing at the time and she was altogether kind and encouraging.
- Hayao Miyazaki... all I can say is "Wow!" If you have yet to see any of his films, turn off the computer, go get Spirited Away, and watch it immediately. Stopping to buy movie goodies is acceptable as well.
- Brad Bird, John Lasseter... okay, pretty much anyone at Pixar.
- Edward Gorey. He may seem like an odd addition to this list, but anyone familiar with The Blue Aspic or his illustrations for the Metropolitan Opera and the NYC Ballet will understand why I so greatly appreciate his wit.
- Pope John Paul II. Not only was he an amazing individual in the social/spiritual arena, but he was also a champion skier, activist, poet, playwright, actor and singer. For those who are keeping score, he was a tenor.
- My husband and my mom (of course!).
Now then, what will I make of myself? All in all I try to steer clear of metaphysical dealings (long story... I'll tell you if you really want to know), but I am facinated with sybolism and semiotics particulrly when viewed through a cultural lens. As a result, I am taken with the art of tarot cards because they have become so infused with meaning over the centuries. In other words, they are something of an emotional map of western civilization's search for truth. I rather liked the results I got from this test, though, and this particular deck is one of my favourites from a visual standpoint. Isn't it rather fabulous, though, that she looks a bit like Leontyne Price in the Met's production of Aida?

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realized
The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.
