About Me

(Huh?) [ Add to your page ]
The latest, craziest news about me is that I have survived a kidney transplant! Surgery happened on May 15, and my beloved uncle was my donor - he's the bravest man and my hero! Super shout out too to my Aunt Julie for nursing us both back to health, and to my love, Eric, for being there for me with endless patience and care.
I'm home now, and forcing myself to take it easy - which isn't that hard, given the pain from the major abdominal incision. So...if you're like me and need to do some serious summer reading, check out my books!
"The Sea Maiden's Mark," from Mardi Gras Publishing , has just been released!
Looking for hot summer reading? Sex on the beach? Take a dip into this erotic retelling of The Little Mermaid, full of surprising twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Arrah of the Sea People is the promised concubine of the brutal, imperious Prince Tymon. While he is more than happy with the arrangement, Arrah has other ideas - insane ideas about freedom and choice, things no concubine has ever asked for.
Sparks fly as Arrah and Tymon spar back and forth while trying to fight the pull of the tides of their unquenchable desire. Add to the mix a rival concubine and her scheming aunt, a mysterious symbol, a plot for murder and a vague wizard, and you have the perfect storm of lust, danger and intrigue.

Please visit my website at Kate September to learn more about me and my writing.
Currently, I am working on edits to "Dance of Desire," the third book my "La Belle Epoque" trilogy from Siren Publishing. It's set in Paris, 1901 and features a clumsy ballerina, a confused hero, a case of mistaken identity, misunderstandings, blackmail, and of course, romance! If you can't wait for that one, check out the first two books of the series, "Portrait of Desire" and "Duet of Desire."
Please consider supporting your local no-kill animal rescue shelter, either financially or by volunteering. You can also support specific breed rescue programs. For example, I support Basenji Rescue and Transport . These folks, out of the goodness of their hearts, foster and work to rehome basenjis that have either been abandoned or surrendered. It takes a lot of dedication and love to do that.
So...if you are considering getting a pet, please consider either buying from a reputable breeder or adopting an animal from a shelter or breed rescue program. Please don't buy from pet stores!!! Those dogs most often come from backyard breeders and puppy mills where many dogs live in terrible conditions!!!
And, if you feel you have room in your home and heart, please consider working with a rescue program to foster a dog, giving them the love, kindness and help they need to move on to a forever home.
Stepping off soapbox, now.
Indicators of my sense of humor...perhaps these websites say it best:
SatireWire
Despair, Successories' Evil Twin
A tribute to "Are You Being Served"
Whose Line is it Anyway? - one of the few shows that makes me laugh out loud when I'm by myself...
Okay, and just because this cracks me up every time I see it...

My Interests

Reading, archaology, historical research, walking my dogs, cooking, knitting (badly), watching favorite movies...and, of course, writing.
Belly-dancing is my new favorite way of staying in shape!

I'd like to meet:

I guess I'm interested in meeting almost anyone. People fascinate me in general. I blame it on the fact that my father is a psychologist, and my mother is a social worker. Being interested in people is in my blood.

I'd also like to encourage people to consider signing up to be an organ donor, if your cultural and religious beliefs permit.

Statistics
Although there have been advances in medical technology and donation, the demand for organ, eye and tissue donation still vastly exceeds the number of donors. For more information, read the summary below or create a detailed data report on the UNOS Web site.
* Almost 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.
* Every 12 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
* An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.
* In 2005, there were 7,593 deceased organ donors and 6,895 living organ donors resulting in 28,108 organ transplants.
* In 2005, 44,000 grafts were made available for transplant by eye banks within the United States.
* Approximately 1,000,000 tissue transplants are performed annually.
* According to research, 98% of all adults have heard about organ donation and 86% have heard of tissue donation.
* 90% of Americans say they support donation, but only 30% know the essential steps to take to be a donor.

Music:

I like lots of different kinds of music, though I very rarely really fall in love with a top 40 song. I guess Kelly Clarkson would by my guilty pleasure in that area.
Porcupine Tree is a favorite band of mine, along with Mofro.

Movies:

Mansfield Park
Pride & Prejudice (1995 & 2005)
Angels & Insects
The Virgin Suicides
Office Space
The Quiet Man
The Lady Vanishes
The Thin Man movies
The Topper movies
Ever After

Television:

I generally don't watch TV, as I usually find it kind of a waste of time. Once in a while, I like to watch Law & Order, but that's about it.Okay, I'm a South Park addict. I have to admit it.

Books:

I adore the Lucia series by E.F. Benson and am an avid fan of P.G. Wodehouse. Mostly, I like to read well-written non-fiction.
The Virgin Suicides, by Jeffrey Eugenides
Angels & Insects, by A.S. Byatt
Jane Eyre
Pride & Prejudice
Anything by Edgar Allen Poe
Of course, there are also my own books that I write, listed on my website at Kate September . Titles include:
La Belle Epoque (a three book trilogy)
Portrait of Desire (Book 1 of La Belle Epoque)
Duet of Desire (Book 2 of La Belle Epoque)
Dance of Desire (Book 3 of La Belle Epoque)
The Siren's Bloom

Denny usually sits with me or behind me when I work :)
