True Legends Never Die

About Me

Augury was formed in September 2000 under the name "Sphinx" by Phexataan (a.k.a Muhannad Bursheh) (Bass), Saeed Abu-Jaber (Guitar), Omar Nooreddin (Guitar), Tareq Fayyad (Vocals) and Omar Ebdah (Drums). In the early days, like other local bands, Augury only played cover songs from many different styles. In October 2002, the drummer left the band due to a simple misunderstanding - At that time the band was in the phase of forming their style, for that reason the band changed the name into something that fits the style more, and the name was "Morgoth". In that period the band began working for real and started composing original material. In early 2003, Basil Bursheh (Phexataan's cousin) joined the band on Keyboards. Later that year the name had to be changed again, because the releasing of the band's first work was coming near and the name "Morgoth" was already taken by a German cult band, so the new chosen name was "Augury". In early 2004, Augury released their first demo "Temptation of Oath" and gained a great reputation in the local and Arabian metal scenes due to the quality of the material on, which can be considered as the first professional Metal material and production in Jordan. At that time, the local Metal scene in Jordan was dead for a couple of years due to problems with the authorities; by releasing "Temptation of Oath", the scene came back to life and Augury became a significant figure in the Arabian scene as one of the ultimate best and leading bands. Other than Jordan, Temptation of Oath reached a good number of international countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas; (Lebanon, UAE, Algeria, Morocco, Germany, France, Greece, England, Mexico, Canada, USA, and more...).
In August 2005, Augury stepped a further step when their demo Temptation of Oath was released in a split album form with the Belgian Folk Black Metal band "Natan". The split album was released by the Mexican metal distribution label "Atolinga Records" and it is now selling world wide. By that Augury became the first ever Jordanian metal band to release an official release with a foreign metal label.
Unfortunately, the band is now passing through a very hard time; since the guitarists Omar Nooreddin and Saeed Abu-Jaber moved to England in 2004, the band has been moving slowly and only did a few shows and composed little material in the past 2 years. The biggest strike to the band was the immigration of the vocalist Tareq Fayyad to the USA, which made things even worse. The current situation of Augury is now on hold until the near future decides what will happen!
Join us in Battle, and stay true forever...
