TERMINAL DESCENT BIOGRAPHY 2007
TERMINAL DESCENT began its quest of ascension in 1997, releasing various “obscure” CD-R demos (One of the first “bands“ to use this medium!). The demos showcased “odd” (also labeled as “weird”) and innovative guitar playing, with particular “weakness” lying in the rest of the instruments/song structures (which could be compared to a newly born galaxy, while “beautiful“ within the right state of mind--those with limited vision dismissed them as nothing credible and not of lasting relevance (while a few were so impressed, they became immediate die-hard supporters). Each demo improved upon the previous--the Universe of TERMINAL DESCENT has formed at a gradual yet quantum pace--securing itself with a permanent foundation, whether acknowledged or not, akin to an alternate dimension. Like the rays of a star, TERMINAL DESCENT has shone its light with resolute de-termination (the reverse of termination); to support , uplift, and expand the boundaries of life--a far more difficult task than to discount existence as a random accident--without purpose or meaning (that adds to the “negative” victim-slave mentality of uselessness that is so pervasive in “extreme metal“). It has been the intention of TERMINAL DESCENT to uncover the process of creation and the acts thereof, which can be seen and heard within the overall concept (described by the facilitator of the project--Tony Mikkelson--as his “oracle/effigy“). A relevant bit of trivia--an anagram of “Terminal Descent” is “Eternal Mind Sect” (an interesting coincidence or a predestined personal trigger?), which TERMINAL DESCENT represents in an artistic fashion, proving--after ten years--that there’s more than meets the eye where TERMINAL DESCENT is concerned. There’s more when “One” meets the “I”!
The release of “HOST AGE TO THE DEVIL” (on the self-financed label VITRIOLIC RECORDS) signals a new beginning for the entity known as TERMINAL DESCENT. With a far more driven and streamlined quality of form--a conscious effort towards all aspects of its manifestation, than previous offerings, the eleven songs captured on this CD emote a strength of perseverance through dedication, a balance of chaos with temperance, an impassioned state of confidence with oneself and the higher order of creation that results in a message for all who are ready and willing for ascension status--”take charge of your responsibility and be responsible for taking charge!“ There is a sense of hunger and tenacity in the compositions, contained on “Host Age to the Devil”, with an aim to raise itself out of the far depths of the shadowy underground into the hearts and minds of all who may embrace its dynamic force of being. Though, TERMINAL DESCENT isn‘t about “dominating a given scene” but sharing its essence of vitality and unique vision--to become a fixture in the great pantheon of METAL and unite with all who resonate with and are inspired by its music and/or “mission“--be it one or a million!
TERMINAL DESCENT incorporates “old school” sensibilities with a new flair of musical interpretation, coalescing its own signature style. There’s a desire to create inventive and challenging--yet, memorable songs--that propel the listener through various states of excitement. TD crafts high energy compositions with taut rhythms, thought provoking lyrics, and spontaneous abstract elements--conjured from an “inner magical source” (experienced like a “monk meditating in a sandstorm”).

There once was a devoted priest who wished to see both heaven and hell, and God gave way to his pleading.
The priest found himself before a door which bore no name. He trembled as he saw it open before him into a large room where all was prepared for a feast. There was a table, and at its centre a great dish of steaming food. The smell and the aroma inflamed the appetite.
Diners sat around the table with great spoons in their hands, yet they were shrieking with hunger in that terrible place. They tried to feed themselves, and gave up, cursing God, for the spoons that God had provided were so long that they could not reach their faces and get the food to their tongues. So they starved, while their dish of plenty lay amongst them. The priest knew their screams were the cries of hell, and as this understanding came, the door closed before him.
He shut his eyes in prayer and begged God to take him away from that terrible place. When he opened them again, he despaired, for the same door stood before him, the door that bore no name. Again it opened, and it gave onto the same room. Nothing had changed, and he was about to cry in horror. There was the table, and at its centre the steaming dish, and around it were the same people, and in their hands the same spoons.
Yet the shrieking had gone, and the cries and the curses had changed to blessings; and nothing had changed, yet everything. For with the same long spoons they reached to each other's mouths and fed one another, and they gave thanks to God.
And as the priest heard the blessings, the door closed. He fell to his knees, and he too blessed God who had shown him the nature of heaven and hell, and the chasm - a hair's breadth wide - that divides them.---Author unknown
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."---Marianne Williamson
