"radar contact lost.." The last words uttered from 'one solar day'. The title track for the album documents the actual conversation between the airport communications tower and doomed, out of fuel flight 52 in it's final stages...LUG is a solo project from Australian Simon Ayton................. ................. .................The album One Solar Day presents sounds and performances recorded during travels throughout the world including singing children in Vietnamese hill tribes to melodically tuned waves in Guatemala. Rhythmic roots together with extensive ventures into film music and sound design greatly influence the sound and mood of the music. Twisted drum and percussion loops played live, duck and weave their way through layers of dark and majestic atmosphere giving the music a filmic quality that ebbs and flows between pure aggression and utter tranquility with an attention to detail that rewards repeat listeners with seemingly endless new discoveries ................. ................. .................Many of the melodic sounds throughout One Solar Day are in fact percussion instruments like bells, sticks and water bottles stretched and warped using Simon's own custom plug-ins designed for the Creamware Scope system...(link at bottom of page). ................. ................. .................BIO for Simon Ayton.Simon grew up in Melbourne Australia, picked up drum sticks in 1983 and played in several local bands from the age of 14 including Scarecrow Tiggy and Zaibatsu both with whom he made several albums and played live gigs as drummer/percussionist. He toured supporting bands such as Brutal truth (USA), Secret Chiefs 3 (USA), Atari Teenage Riot (GER), Blood Duster (AUS) and as a solo performer opening for Melt Banana's Japanese producer & noise artist KK Null. ................. ................. .................Simon has also created music and sound design for internationally exhibited artist Dominic Ryan..............................With a background training in electronics and inspired by his audio engineering father, Simon setup Onomatopoeia Studio in Melbourne where he recorded albums and a number of films for which he also composed the music and created the sound design including the award winning 'Hurt', 'First Love' and 'Dawn Of The DMFs'. ................. ................. .................Since relocating to Europe in 2000, Simon has performed solo in Berlin, written and performed music for television, theatre and with other German musicians Tobias Vethake and Julian Boyd as Phirefones worked in Germany and America for the films Muxmaeuschenstill (English name: 'quiet as a mouse') (Germany 2003-2004), Olga Benario (Germany 2004), Wrecker (USA 2004) and Street Thief (USA 2006). ................. ................. .................In 2005, Simon played improvised gigs in Leipzig and Berlin with fellow Phirefones member Tobias Vethake (Aka: Sicker man) and travelled to Scotland to perform @ the Fringe festival in 2005.2006 saw Simon travel to the US to study with the legendary jazz drummer Joe Morello who paid him the honour of referring to him as "a fine and very musical drummer..."......In an entirely different more acoustic vein, Simon has recently recorded/produced and drummed on australian aritist Kat Frankie's debut album 'Pocketknife' released september/october 2007 and is currently drumming on works by Einstuerzende Neubauten's 'Ash Wednesday'.
