United Peace Relief (UPR) volunteers continue to give service in the gulf region, doing reconstruction, medical, and social work. UPR has been given the IRS classification as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, which will help us grow and continue our disaster relief efforts.Two RVs have been donated for mobile disaster response vehicles. One is located in the gulf region and the other in northern California. The vehicles need work and our plan is to remodel them to be self sufficient with soup kitchen, first aid and satellite internet capability. Our deadline is to have them on the road by the start of the next hurricane season on July 1, 2006.important;}
, Louisiana. We will continue coordinating the free medical clinic in Pass Christian, Mississippi, until June 15, 2006 and perhaps longer. The clinic is very busy and the need for medical support continues.UPR is recruiting contractors and carpenters to help with a training program for locals of the gulf region to learn the carpentry trade. Wendy Jackson is a general contractor, she will travel to Mississippi in May to do a reconstruction project and the organizational ground work for a program to begin in the fall of 2006. We have established several tool libraries in the region and will be sending more tools in the future.UPR recently decided to give support to a small village in Mexico. El Cardonal is located on the Sea of Cortez and has been hit by devastating hurricanes in the past. We are helping the local people to organize for disaster preparedness, and have given them a small grant to buy supplies in the advent of a serious hurricane warning. This project is fulfilling our goal to expand to global disaster relief.I will be traveling with Wendy in May and working as a Physician Assistant in the Village Free Clinic in Pass Christian, Mississippi. UPR is working to make liaisons with local groups so that we can be prepared and more useful when the next disaster hits.Thank you again,Lynn Meadows PA
