About Me

The purpose of this page is to spread awareness about the terrorism that is still taking place in Sri Lanka. Since Sri Lanka gained it's independence from the British, there has been ethnic conflict between the Tamils and the Sinhalese. Since 1983, Sri Lanka has experienced terrorism by the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) in the Northern and Eastern provinces that has resulted in life-threatening and traumatic experiences for women; loss of life, rape and being searched by armed groups are daily occurrences. The LTTE has recruited and used children, some as young as nine, as soldiers throughout the Sri Lankan civil war. The average age of children at the time of recruitment into the LTTE is 15. According to latest estimates by UNICEF, 1,642 children, of which 667 are still under 18, have been recruited by the LTTE. The LTTE claim to be so-called "liberators" of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka, and justify the violent acts as a response to the oppression the Tamils reportedly have experienced by the government. However, only a very small minority of Tamils in Sri Lanka support such extreme and violent measures. The vast majoirty of the Sinhalese and Tamil citizens simply wish to co-exist in peace. Although there has been many attempts for peace talks, all of them have failed miserably. It is unclear as to what the future wil hold. What is evident however, is that it is neither the corrupt politicians nor the LTTE terrorists who are suffering from this 24 year long war; it's the innocent civilians. Fear, Terror, violence, corruption, penury, hunger...you name it, these innocent people are living in it as a result of this meaningless bloodshed!

My Interests

URGENT APPEAL!!!Please save Tsunami Tamil Children being recruited by LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists as "Child Soldiers"....................."My parents refused to give me to the LTTE so about fifteen of them came to my house—it was both men and women, in uniforms, with rifles, and guns in holsters…. I was fast asleep when they came to get me at one in the morning.… These people dragged me out of the house. My father shouted at them, saying, “What is going on?”, but some of the LTTE soldiers took my father away towards the woods and beat him to death. They also pushed my mother onto the ground and and killed her when she tried to stop them". ---(girl recruited by the LTTE in 2003 at age sixteen)---
