Last year AKURAT (Exactly) gave almost 100 concerts becoming one of the most popular college groups. Their main asset is unique unpretentious style escaping classification. Some link them to reggae legends like Daab and UB40. To others they are the heirs of the independent stars like The Toasters, The Madness and even to Manu Chao. AKURAT created their own recognizable style. Their music has loads of positive energy and reflects the joy of playing. Its a mixture of rock with a solid dose of ska music and intriguing lyrics perfectly describing reality.
AKURAT was set up in November 1994 in Bielsko-Biala the city in southern Poland called the second Cracow - by students with different professional aspirations - graphic designers, a filmmaker, an actor and two educated musicians. The members of the band did not change and they are - Piotr Wrobel and Wojciech Zolty (vocals and guitars), Przemyslaw Zwias (saxophone, flute), Ireneusz Wojnar (bass) and Krzysztof "Flipper" Krupa (drums). Their career begun with a few amateur contests, which brought them prizes (in Bielsko and Andrychów). Later they made their way to Przystanek Woodstock festival in Zary, where they performed three times (in 1998, 1999 and 2001) for thousands of people. They also gave concerts in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2001 AKURAT recorded their first album Pomarancza (Orange) with hits: Hahahaczyk, Espania, Droga dluga jest (Long is the road) and Lubie mowic z Toba (I like talking to you). Their next album Prowincja (Province) was issued with their own resources and despite of the simple promotion turned out to be a success singles Wiej-ska and Do prostego czowieka (To the simple man) were on charts In spring 2006 their new album called "Fantasmagorie" (Fantasmagorias) and re-editions of the previous records were released, which turned them into a star that is recognized not only in Poland.
Today AKURAT is a fully professional band that has lost nothing of its youthful vitality. The band play harder music than at the beginning, definitely on the rock note but they still make use of rhythmic figures that originate in ska and reggae. A charismatic vocalists and guitarists, great sound of brass and efficient rhythmic section all make AKURAT a powerful group.
Currently AKURAT is preparing the fourth record which is said to be full of surprises....Lubie Mowic z Toba
