Put on your dancing feet...
Sounding like a pack of psychotic gypsies swingin', pickin', screamin' and skankin' with flailing limbs to a grinding Balkan barbershop-doof-quartet at a drunken barnyard rasta hoedown, Double Entendre's own high-energy style of 'Gyp-Rock' shakes, stirs and smashes together genres of world music, gypsy jazz, roots and dub into their own intoxicatingly dancy, lethal concoction.
With unshakable vibe and an immovable wall-of-groove, these vagabonds from WA's alternative capital of Fremantle jam-pack a double-bass, drums, acoustic & electric guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, melodica, tin-whistle and barbershop harmonies into tunes influenced by various sounds from around the globe.
Voted ‘Best World Music Act’ at the 2007 WAMi awards, Double Entendre worked up a sweat over the following months, touring extensively around the country for the good part of a year in their bus, 'Freddy' and playing festivals such as Fairbridge, the WAMis, Blues at Bridgetown, and the Darwin Festival as well as performing alongside many homegrown greats such as Blue King Brown, Eskimo Joe, Ben Lee and The Cat Empire.
Their gypsy pilgrimage has taken them everywhere from the remote southern and northern reaches of WA to the top end of the Northern Territory, though the Red Centre and to the mystical far-eastern shores of northern NSW and QLD where they encountered more gypsies, pixies and carnie folk than they had ever seen before! The band will make Freo their home once again in 2008 and who knows what the future may hold!
