WALKER DIVER

About Me

After leaving indie rock band Mitch in early 2001, singer/ guitarist/ songwriter Stefan 't Hooft began working on a solo album under the moniker of Walker Diver. Halfway through the making of what was to become "White Knuckle Ride" he assembled a band and then Walker Diver ceased to be a solo project. The first line up of the band consisted of drummer Jelmer de Haas, lead guitarist Mathijs Peeters (Sandusky / Gasoline Brothers), bassplayer Michel van der Westen and Stefan on vocals and guitar. In April 2004, debut album White Knuckle Ride was released. The album got great reviews in the Dutch music press, praising the "melancholic americana tunes" and "insightful, story telling lyrics". One reviewer even called the band "The Dutch R.E.M.", which is of course utterly absurd, yet flattering. After doing a lot of shows, the band started working on their second album late 2004. However, early 2005 saw the departure of lead guitarist Mathijs Peeters and bassist Michel van der Westen.Stefan then decided to finish the album the way the whole Walker Diver thing had started: pretty much by himself and with the kind help of befriended guest musicians. However, the work is now done and Stefan has assembled a new band to promote the new album "Junior Blues", out May 2007.Discography: * For The Better Part Of Eternity (7" e.p. black death records 2003) * White Knuckle Ride (cd, fount music 2004) * Junior Blues (cd, off the records 2007)Walker Diver on compilations: * Home (cd, [drga.drga] records 2002) * Demontage vol. 9 (cd, FRET magazine 2003) * Silent Minority Sampler (cd, Silent Minority 2004) * Utrecht Speelt Uit (cd, Gun Magazine 2004) * Planet Heartbreak vol. 1 (cd, Stuck In A Day records 2006)
