Myspace Contact Tables Lyrics

I am a Captain with my local fire department and have been there for about 18 years now. I worked with my dad at his auto paint & body shop from around age 14 till after graduation. I graduated from high school in 1985 and went to LSU-E where I graduated with an associate degree in Fire Science. I worked in retail for about 2 more years as a manager at a local auto parts store, and then got hired to work for the fire department as a fire fighter. I am an avid music fan and love going to good concerts, though tickets prices these days are getting to be absolutely ridiculous for large venues (Screw U Ticketmaster!! )I try to check out local rock shows whenever I can too and suggest you do the same, keep the local music scene alive people!

I really enjoy hunting, fishing, and camping whenever possible, though time for doing that stuff is tough to come by these days, but I go whenever I can. My friends and I used to go on hiking, canoeing , and hunting trips quite often and those were some of the most fun times of my youth. We still try to make an annual hunting or camping trip each year as long as schedules permit.

I am a car fanatic(some say a nut) and I am obsessed with classic and muscle cars. Ive had a fascination with them since I was just a kid of around 4, since I grew up around my dad's shop where he not only repaired customer's cars, but also restored his own antique and collector cars... and I hope one day to be able to accomplish 1/10 of what he has when it comes to auto restoration even if it is just to redo my car, a '77 Z/28.

Finally, I love to play music as well. I play bass guitar mostly, though I noodle a bit on guitar and mandolin as well.I've been playing bass seriously for about 14 years.I'm an admitted gear hound and have a weakness for constantly trying out new(and used) music equipment. You'll never know what that magic combination of guitar, amp and pedal might be till you try it!! My main basses are a pair of '78 Fender Jazz basses, a '75 Rickenbacker 4001, and an assortment of other basses including a USA made Hamer B12L 12-string bass. Though my bass rig has evolved a bit since this picture was taken, this is a link to the 12stringbass.net website with a few older pics of My Bass Rig
Our Band... 'Gabby Hayz'

On the music front--------A few friends and I have had a band "GABBY HAYZ",that we've been messing around with for a number of years for fun.Our staggered work schedules(2 firefighters and an English school teacher..)up until now have prevented us from proceeding much further than that. However,we finally got serious this past year & decided to write music for & record a cd of mostly original material.Though we've all been playing music for many years(individually as well as together),it was our first venture into recording or putting together a cd & as such, was both fun & interesting to accomplish.Consisting of myself Kenny M. on bass,Paul Mouton on drums,Larry Moreau on guitar, and a good friend of ours Paul Piazza from Abbeville on vocals, the band's name up until recently was still undecided. However, the direction of this 1st cd is not, and is decidedly a blended mix(or gumbo if you will)of our various & diverse influences. We spent roughly a solid 3 months total(though spread out over the better part of a year)in our drummer's rehearsal space/studio & finished recording it in early December 2005(13 originals & 1 cover) after which I went back mixed and mastered the cd.

Songwriting,lyrics,recording,mixing,mastering,artwork,etc... has been done by us & us alone(for better or for worse)and though it has been time consuming, it was also a good learning experience. Although it might not be everyone's bag musically(since it is pretty diverse in its sounds),we still hope that everyone might find at least a little something that appeals to them in the tunes.

The name of our band is Gabby Hayz and the cd is entitled 'Keepsake'. Our band's MySpace page is at the following link:

A short paragraph to pimp my favorite band King's X,...Support these guys, buy their cds, a few t shirts and hit a concert or two, youll be glad you did!
KING'S X CDs

KING'S X Shirts and Merch

Roughly once a week, I'll try to rotate out what I think are cool older concert videos, bootlegs, and footage of great bands and performances here just to keep things interesting.
THIS WEEK:

Video below...Blues Traveler…”Crash Burn”

This week, is Blues Traveler live at CBGB’s doing the song “Crash Burn” from their 1994 cd ‘Four’.

Blues Traveler started out back in 1983 as a jam band in New Jersey. Known for having killer shows which consisted of a lot of improvisational playing, they’ve gained a huge following over the years. The band’s lineup is now comprised of singer and harmonica virtuoso John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, drummer Brendan Hill, bass guitarist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson. Tad Kinchla and Ben Wilson joined the band following the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999 of a drug overdose in New Orleans.

This video was shot back in 1994 with the band’s original lineup at the famous CBGB’s club where they blazed through this song.I give you Blues Traveler playing “Crash Burn” (w/original bass player Bobby Sheehan R.I.P.) Enjoy!!!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Famous - John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page
I've been fortunate enough over the years to have met many of my musical heros, but there are still quite a few that I'd like to and haven't yet. Page and JPJ would definitely be at the top of the list. Also, Alex, Geddy and Neil of Rush would rank right up there as well
Friends- pretty much any cool people who share similar interests.

Music:

While I do lean much more toward hard rock, metal, and older progressive rock, I still enjoy listening to a lot of other genres including blues, some alternative, acoustic(folk & celtic), some jazz, and classical... the only thing I really detest is rap, I can find NO redeaming qualities in that crap.Formulated stuff like the current trend in alternative rock and 'new' country aren't really my thing either(i.e.-Emo,Screamo{"whiny" rock} or country-wannabe stuff{Big & Rich,etc..)That stuff all sounds the same to me because much of it basically is. All image, all filler, with very little substance. Sorry, not a slam to those who like it,if that's your thing, more power to ya,but I just can't get into it.I dont mind some older country though(Real Country-Johnny Cash,Merle Haggard,etc..but I can only listen even to it in small doses & really have to be in the right mood..(Gimme a Beer! LOL) Mainly though, I'm classic & hard rock, through and through. The bands below are what I typically listen to(though I do listen to other stuff as well):
King's X(my Favorite band!)****-If you've never heard of them or listened to their stuff, then you've got something to look forward to(Get some KING'S X NOW!!!)
Other bands that I love and have been a fan of for years include Led Zeppelin(2nd favorite only to KX), Tool, The Who, Black Label Society, Rush, Cheap Trick, Tea Party, The Screamin Cheetah Wheelies,Pantera, Galactic Cowboys, Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains, Pink Floyd, Pat Travers, Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush, Robin Trower, Queen, Govt Mule, The Beatles, AC/DC, Big Wreck, Jimi Hendrix, Coheed & Cambria, Van Halen, Cry Of Love, Brother Cane, Spinal Tap ;) Dixie Dregs, Deep Purple, Ian Moore, Zebra, The Police, STP, Foo Fighters, SRV, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Soundgarden,Allman Brothers Band,Porcupine Tree, Rage Against The Machine, Brother Cane, Moke,Sly & The Family Stone, Incubus, Yes, old ZZ Top(pre-Eliminator), Blues Traveler, Eric Johnson, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, too many to really list here..in fact, let me just say that anyone who considers themselves to be a true rock fan should own at least a good number of these cds below, if not all of them.I'd personally be lost if I didn't have them to listen to anymore..to me these are crucial and mandatory albums!!!If you cant remember the names when you go looking for music, try at least to remember the covers so you might recognize them in the store, give them a listen, and consider each a new and exciting sonic gift:

Heroes:

I have to say our men & women in the military are heroes in my book for being willing to fight for our country, our comfort and our safety.I think people take our freedoms and safety for granted quite often. In this day and age especially, that is the last thing we should do.I have many friends and family members who have and still are serving, and to them I give my utmost respect, support, and thanks, they are heroes in my eyes. Also, fellow firefighters and police who put their safety and lives on the line daily deserve my, as well as everyone's else's, respect as well.
As far as personal heros, 2 people I look up to and respect immensely are my parents for having grown up & started out in life dirt poor with basically nothing and yet raised myself & my sister without us ever having to do without the necessities in life. Though we often didn't have all the latest stuff as kids(toys,clothes,etc..)that the other kids around us did growing up & had what most today would consider a fairly strict upbringing, we never suffered for it. If anything, it made us both much better & stronger people for it. Material possessions are not a substitute for love... & not showing kids any discipline when they make mistakes is essentially the same as ignoring a problem or saying it's okay to continue messing up. So I guess what I'm saying here is that yeah, growing up was tough(it always is), but we were always shown love and guidance, there was never any doubt that our parents loved us and cared about us, and that to me is the most important thing in every kid's life growing up(and sadly, it's something that seems to be missing quite often in many of their lives today, which is ashame.) My parents never took a handout or depended on others for support, they put our needs ahead of their own, have worked harder than anyone else I know all their lives, and they did without many times while we were growing up to make sure we were okay. Mom & dad, you are my heroes if there ever were any, I love yall.

As for as musical heroes go though,I have way too many to list here. They include many great and talented singers, guitarists,drummers,bassists,etc...but due to shortage of space & since I am a bass player, those are the ones I'll post below & they'd include: John Paul Jones(Led Zeppelin),dUg Pinnick(King's X),Tom Petersson(Cheap Trick)-[These 3 are the guys who've probably had the biggest influence on me as a bass player...JPJ is IMO one of the best bass players and well rounded musicians ever & dUg and Tom for being the reasons I picked up the 12- string bass, what a trip!!],...Geezer Butler, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire,(the bass trifecta of gritty tone that works), Mars Cowling(Pat Travers Band..WOW!),Billy Sheehan(Insanity on 4 strings personified!),Bob Daisley(Ozzy,Black Sabbath,Rainbow), Glenn Hughes(Deep Purple,Trapeze,Black Sabbath)Paul McCartney(goes without saying!! ;) ), Tommy Shannon(SRV, Arc Angels ..master of solid Blues Groove),Jack Bruce(Cream),Allen Woody(Allman Bros, Govt Mule, ..R.I.P.) Bobby Sheehan(Blues Traveler..R.I.P.), James DeWar(Robin Trower...R.I.P.),Phil Lynott(Thin Lizzy..R.I.P.), John Entwistle(The Who..R.I.P.),Boz Burrell(Bad Company...R.I.P.) Leon Wilkeson(Lynyrd Skynyrd..R.I.P.), Justin Chancellor(Tool), Robert DeLeo(STP)
