THEN:
I started DJing back in '79 when Ian "Mastercuts" Dewhirst gave me my first break in Leeds. The electronic music evolution was massive in the North of England and DJing and music in general became my life! I had residencies there in Le Phonographique, The Warehouse and Amnesia where I met Marc Almond and Dave Ball.
The tres chic goth-romantic underground club "The Batcave" asked me to be a resident for them down in London and I promoted my own electro based nights including a live music night in Leeds Amnesia club and was lucky enough to have Depeche Mode, A Certain Ratio, The Human League, Soft Cell, Fad Gadget, Sylvester and many others play at the club.
During the 80's I joined Soft Cell on tour as their warm up and after show DJ and did so for a number of other artists.
Marc Almond asked me to play keyboards on an underground release "Sleaze" after he had heard my piano playing featuring on an obscure Simon Fisher Turner project album "Deux Filles". After that Marc and I collaborated on all his solo projects during the 80's culminating in the very successful album "The Stars We Are" in 1988 which included 4 weeks at the No.1 spot with "Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart" a duo recorded with the songs original vocalist the late great Gene Pitney. I also worked with Velvet Underground's Iconic femme fatale "Nico" on that album.
I worked with Marc Almond for 9 years as a writer, arranger, performer, producer and MD. These were truly inspirational times and formed the basis of my music career.
