London Breakbeat Orchestra

About Me

LBO are here to reclaim the beat and the dance floor!

"I'm really excited about what you're doing. You guys should definitely blow up!" DJ Annie Nightingale

Providing the music for waltzes in the ballroom and swing in the dance halls, orchestras haven't always been limited to the concert hall. Performing in venues more commonly associated with DJs and rock bands, London Breakbeat Orchestra demonstrate that orchestral instruments can be used for far more than classical music. Killer grooves, turntablism and FX plus 30 virtuoso instrumentalists combine to creat floor fillers live.

LBO, the 'rave child' of composer Cimeon Ellerton, was first formed in 2005. Cimeon drew on musicians and resources whilst studying at Trinity College of Music in Greenwich and since its conception he has sought to recreate and reinvent the sound of 21st century electronica with particular focus on the genres of breakbeat and drum n bass.

Now the band is formed of approximately 30 young professional jazz and classical musicians who all have a passion for quality music and for the clubbing scene. The result is an orchestra performing live dance music to a professional standard in your favorite clubbing venues.

Cimeon Ellerton, currently studying for a Masters in Composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Jac Jones, a professional jazz saxophonist, write all orchestra's repertoire. By combining their knowledge of compositional styles they create music to be appreciated by clubbers and connesieurs alike.

"London Breabeat Orchestra pullled a capacity crowd to London's Cargo.... showed that traditional instruments are just as capable of filling a club and bringing the house down.." Mixmag

"Self-penned tracks such as Traffic Jam put the orchestra's vast make-up to good use, layering tense srting patterns over the bob and weave rhythms of old-school drum 'n' bass... a perfect night for fans of Goldie and Vivaldi - how often can you say that?!" Metro

"...a dramatic set by the London Breakbeat Orchestra on the main stage got everybody in the mood.

Clad in red T-shirts, the two dozen or so musicians played original orchestral pieces which were infused with Seventies funk and drum and bass..." thisisgloucestershire.co.uk

"Saturday saw a breath of fresh air on the festival scene with the London Breakbeat Orchestra playing to a handful of lucky revellers on the main stage. Their fusion of classic orchestral magic with a modern sound sets the LBO apart from anyone else I..ve ever seen and from the crowds reaction I was not the only one." After Dark Magazine

"Finding the London Breakbeat Orchestra playing quickly stopped the disappointment with their unusual, drum'n'bass playing, thirty piece band. Their jazzy breaks were an instant lift" efestivals.co.uk

Influences:

We are yet to come across anybody doing live breaks/DnB on such a large scale, but we are influenced by Breakbeat Allstars, London Elektricity, Meat Katie, Plump DJs, Pendulum (Hold Your Colour - Intro) and Adam F (Kaos).

Other musical influences range from Mendelssohn to Miles Davis, Kanye West and the whole Brazillian DnB scene.

We've already name checked a few artists we respect and our influences are vastly wide ranging. We're nearly all classically trained or jazz specialists, but many of us have also studied pop, world and/or folk music.
