To my fellow creative, positive people - singers, songwriters, producers, and anyone with a passion for music: This music industry ocean is deep and hard to navigate at times.....so to everyone clawing their way through, on the grind with your 9 to 5's, keep striving and chasing them dreams! Nothing worthwhile comes without sacrifice...and plus, you gotta have your story for VH1's Driven!!!Born in South India, raised in the UK, and now pursuing her musical destiny in New York, this songstress has shown that no challenge or obstacle will stand in the way of her dreams. She goes beyond a triple threat, as a multitalented singer, songwriter, dancer, poet, actress and model.A natural born performer, she began dancing at the tender age of 3, studying ballet, jazz and bharathanatyam (South Indian dance). She took to the stage like a duck to water participating in many musicals, dance shows and plays. Broadening her artistic horizons as a singer and an actress.At the age of 8 Hema first put pen to paper and began songwriting and writing poetry. An innate skill that she has finely honed ever since. A deep love of music also had her drawn to the keys. She is a classically trained pianist.As soon as she finished school, she made a long-awaited move to London. During her time at college, she set her creative self free, throwing herself into the music and style that she truly loved - R&B and hip hop. She joined hip-hop dance troupes and soon found her natural talents would take her far. She was chosen as a dancer on a national tour with the UKs leading R&B DJ, Trevor Nelson, and an international Bollywood dance tour, giving invaluable experience of life on the road. Add to this, appearances in various major UK music videos, national PA tours with UK acts as well as theatrical roles in Indian dance plays. Her skills in various dance techniques led to the birth of a new role for her - as a choreographer, teaching hip hop classes, and being creative director (and active participant!) in dance and fashion shows in London.She grabbed any opportunity to perform. Most notably she auditioned and beat thousands of singers to perform at the world-renowned Wembley concert venue in London. This was a priceless experience, giving her the chance to show she could hold her own on stage and captivate an audience in their thousands. This solidified what she already knew the stage was her home.When she moved to London she met her partner in crime and friend for life, Sandira. The two formed a group, Serene. With hunger and determination they knocked down as many doors as possible to find someone to share their vision. Discovering limited scope in the UK at that time, the two decided to go straight to the birthplace of the music they loved - America. Knowing nobody, and armed only with their crazy faith in each other....and a very sketchy 'demo'....they tested the waters in New York. Hema has always had the belief that what you throw out into the universe will come back to you, and it did. Like a snowball effect, they soon found themselves in top studios, meeting industry heavyweights, and even into major record labels. They also had the opportunity to gain valuable studio experience attending many sessions with Wyclef Jean and Jerry Wonder. The goal was then clear - they would move to New York.Since arriving in New York, Hema went through a process of soul searching and growth. New experiences, hardships, dealing with the industry and all the trials of moving to a new country all enabled her to further discover herself both as a person and as an artist. A new path was being paved and she decided to go solo.Since then she has immersed herself fully into her craft. She views herself as a perfectionist, constantly striving to better herself and stretch her God-given talents and abilities. Her honesty, warmth and down to earth nature shine through making her a pleasure to work with. This, coupled with a fierce work ethic, insurmountable faith and dedication, is what will inevitably propel her to be the newest sensation to hit the global music scene.Hema now divides her time between New York and London. Her aim is to utilise her exposure to different cultures to produce a blend that truly showcases all the aspects of who she is and what she loves. From pop to R&B to Hip Hop to dance. She is currently working on her debut album in New York, and getting ready to release her first single independently. She has been working with top producers such as Red Spyda (Eminem, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey), Teflon of the Ruff Ryders (Eve, DMX, Donell Jones), and Mr. Man of the hip hop collective, the BushBabies. She is also working closely with rapper Jay Jordan. Jay is signed to Kedar Entertainment Group, run by former Motown president Kedar Massenburg, who was behind India Arie, and Erykah Badu, to name a few. They co-wrote the current songs on her page together. Fusing elements of all their New York Hip Hop backgrounds and her Indian and British heritage to create a unique blend.To play a part in the ever-growing emergence of Indians in the entertainment industry is very important to Hema. To be a positive role model and a shining example of how with hard work, determination and faith you can achieve anything you set your mind to.Definitely one to watch....this rising stars ascension to where she belongs - the skys the limit!
