Yolanda Adams (my friend, and favorite gospel artist) giving me 16 bars plus on stage with her!!!!! (What?!) God is Awesome!!Rosalind 'Roz' White (Formerly Rosalind Gonsalves) is a Song Stylist, Actress, Song Writer, and Motivational Speaker with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment field. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Rosalind was trained by some of the most respected theatrical, classical, and contemporary educators in the industry. A natural entertainer since her days in diapers, Rosalind began her career as a member of the D.C. Youth Ensemble. It was apparent even in the early stages of her training that Rosalind was destined to become a major force in the industry. Rosalind auditioned and was accepted into the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where she trained as a classical voice major. However, Rosalind's theatrical roots would beckon her closer to musical theatre once more. "I loved classical music. I was drawn in by the beauty of the melodies, and the vocal challenge it presented to me. But I knew that theatre was in my blood. I didn't find the same satisfaction in singing arias that I got when there was dialogue and dance evolved. Opera just wasn't my calling. Because I have tremendous respect for the discipline of operatic work, I transferred that work ethic into my musical theatre performances, and found a niche for myself." After high school, Rosalind wanted to take a chance and see what New York City had to offer. She went to an open call for a production of Dreamgirls that was scheduled for a National Tour. My mom took the bus to New York with me. She was more nervous than I was. When I booked the tour, I thought I was headed straight for Broadway... little did I know, this was the beginning of a long and continuous journey of self-discovery." When the tour ended, Rosalind was admonished by a fellow cast mate -a Howard University graduate- to reconsider her artistic path, and to further her education...at Howard of course! She followed her friend's advice, and she was accepted with a musical theatre scholarship, to Howard University's College of Fine Arts." I will be forever grateful to my friend and 'sister' for insisting that I get my college degree. It has been a source of great pride in my artistic endeavors, and in my life as an African American woman. That accomplishment is something no one can take away from me."Rosalind made her four years at Howard memorable by becoming a sought after lead performer, starring in productions of Ain't Misbehavin, The Sirens, Once On This Island, and Dreamgirls, which became a staple on her resume, having been cast in leading roles 8 times over a period of 9 years! Along with the many productions of Dreamgirls, Rosalind added productions such as Blues in The Night, Spunk, Violet, Don't stop The Carnival, One Mo' Time, and the critically acclaimed "Bessie's Blues", for which she won a Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of multiple roles, including the great Ma' Rainey. As well as her many theatrical credits, Rosalind has several credits as a recording artist. She recorded two chart topping dance singles for the European label 'Slip n Slide UK'. Her first single "Bad for me" was reviewed in Billboard magazine's 'New and Noteworthy column, touting her as a "House Mega- Diva ". Her follow-up single "A Little More Love" though recorded some ten years ago is still in rotation, and being played frequently on house music mixing stations to date. Rosalind left her mark on Howard University, being the first and only "Miss Howard" ('92) to win the nationally televised Miss Collegiate African American Pageant. This honor not only garnered Rosalind recognition and rewards- it granted a $25,000 scholarship to her Alma Mater as a result of her victory.More of Rosalind's recording credits include featured and background vocals on the R&B single "The Moon" by fellow Howard grad Eric Roberson, as well as background vocals on the Grammy winning CD "The Experience" by gospel powerhouse Yolanda Adams. She has worked with everyone from the late Ray Charles, to Michael Jackson, and has appeared on Major television shows such as The American Music Awards, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Rosalind also penned her own one woman show "Legacy- the Jazz and Blues in My Soul" in which she portrays music legends Bessie Smith, Pearl Bailey, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, and Aretha Franklin. Rosalind spent three years living in New Orleans, Louisiana . Due to the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, her family has re-located to the Washington, DC area. (" I will never forget the life-long friends I made in the Gulf-Coast. My prayers are with all who stayed to rebuild, and those who were taken away will be sorely missed.")"The center of my life is God, and the beautiful family he has blessed me with. This is my foundation, and my source of peace in this world. I am always ready to be a light to someone who has been told that they are not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough... to be a success in life. I am convinced that there is a divine purpose for all of our trials. Through my gifts as an artist I strive to be a living testimony to God's faithfulness, a strong work ethic, and the power of perseverance."For booking and info, contact: [email protected] "Roz" White ...
