SOPHIA NICOLE

About Me

Glamorous. Classy. Alluring. These are just a few high-praising descriptions that surround buzz-worthy R&B singer/songwriter Sophia Nicole. Her radiant, crystal clear voice and wide vocal range has set her apart from many of her peers in the industry. Gripping, catchy lyrics combined with fearless, soul-stirring performances have this Harlem artist creating an ever-growing fan base and catching the attention of many notables in the music industry. Dreaming of a career in music at a young age, the Saint Louis native would often stand in front of her bedroom mirror escaping to an imaginary world where her hairbrush would instantly transform into a diamond-studded microphone. There she would deliver dramatic, soul-wrenching ballads and impromptu dance numbers to a legion of fans that always begged for more.
Those dreams are steadily coming to fruition. After impressing casting agents in a vocally demanding breakout performance as 'Sweet Georgia Brown' in the hit musical, Bubbling Brown Sugar, she was relocated to the Big Apple to join the Tony Award-Winning Broadway musical, The Lion King. While performing ‘Nala’, the leading lady role, Sophia Nicole thrilled casting agents of the US Open and accepted the invitation to perform “The National Anthem” for the opening ceremonies. This October she is scheduled to perform at the historic Apollo Theater Amateur Night as the featured guest artist. Currently, she is putting in the finishing touches of her highly anticipated EP, entitled, Vain Therapy. This 6 track introductory album is filled with sultry sounds of R&B and pulsating Soul Pop music. With empowering and fun lyrics this album is instantly captivating listeners. The first single, No More, has already proven to be a success with audiences singing along to the catchy tune at her shows around New York City including her recent performance in Harlem for the 35th Anniversary of Harlem Week.
With a singing career that began in her church youth choir and exclusive choral groups in school, Sophia Nicole gained the attention of many national recording artists and producers at a young age. At the age of 16, she joined 3 girls to create the teen group, Platinum. Although the group was short-lived, this experience was beneficial in developing her vocal identity and charismatic confidence on the stage. Her reputable performances have earned her the honor of sharing the stage with many Broadway celebrities. She has made solo appearances at the notorious Birdland Jazz Club, Lincoln Center Allen Room, and recently she made her television debut singing background vocals for the legendary hip-hop artist Jay-Z on VH1’s Storytellers.
More focused than ever she looks forward to her EP album release this winter. When asked to explain the inspiration behind Vain Therapy, Sophia Nicole answers, “My goal was to have fun while sharing my experiences of love lost and survival through heartache. No matter who listens, my desire was for them to be able to identify with the lyrics and be encouraged through the stories I sing about. I believe I achieved that!” The scheduled release date is December 2009.
