Chris Jones

Chris began DJing in 1998 after discovering a passion for dance music which could not be entirely fulfilled on the dance floor. After an experience in 1996 which almost took his life and a difficult two years Chris was able to put the past behind him, start a new life and express his emotion in dance music. He began playing Trance and in 1999 Chris was a resident for the House Of MissDemeanour which gave him the opportunity to play out on most Saturdays and to a crowd of 300 people on Millennium Eve, which at the time was his biggest audience and is still a memorable moment for him.

In 2000/01 Chris was intrigued by different genres of dance music and moved away from Trance to try and discover his own unique style by incorporating Progressive and Techy sounds inspired by productions from the likes of Mr G, Timo Maas and on a tougher note from Mauro Picotto and a few numbers on Recycled Loops by Umek & Valentino Kanzyani, he was in his element. Throughout 2002-04 with a continuing string of difficult work placements Chris found it difficult to keep up with dance music and lost touch with the Techy sound he had progressed to perfection, this was to change after he began frequenting a new local night.

Thanks to his brother Rich Jones (AKA Aura), Chris was introduced to PunchFunk (www.punchfunk.com) shortly after they began running nights at Po Na Na in Portsmouth. Upon seeing DJs such as Phil Kieran, Trevor Rockcliffe and Meat Katie at PunchFunk as well as the talented locals Chris was once again inspired by the music he was hearing and continued to frequent PunchFunk - by the time they began hosting parties at Vanilla he was completely hooked by the vibe and the people. This was the beginning of Chris reviving his passion for dance music and in 2005 he found himself discovering deeper elements of Tech House and felt privileged when Chris Vaux (founder of PunchFunk) gave him the opportunity to warm up for PunchFunk.

Throughout 2005 Chris rediscovered another passion for filming and photography which had been introduced to him by a close friend Pete Butler who was sadly killed in late 2004. Thinking of what he was taught, Chris decided to incorporate photography into his nights out after being inspired to do so by a particular spotter on dontstayin.com - Chris galleries can be seen on here.
Late 2005 saw Chris style progress further into sub genres of House with the incorporation of Tribal and Electro styles as well as Minimal Techno and again he warmed up for PunchFunk. In early 2006 he joined forces with Stu Clark (AKA Rhythm Ace - founder of Phat Acid) to play back2back warm up sets which included Futurism from Club Class. This collaboration of the two Tech/Electro House DJs was welcomed by many and thanks to Chris Vaux they again played back2back to open the PunchFunk stage at HI:FI South in May. Along with Stu Clark Chris played with some of the finest local talent on the South Coast. Chris and Stu Clark again graced the PunchFunk soundstage at Global Gathering 2006 which was an immense experience for them both - PunchFunk continues to spread further afield.
Chris' 2nd mix dedicated to everything PunchFunk made the top 4 in a July '07 issue of DJ Mag, he was surprised and very pleased with the result as it was the first time he had posted in the DJ Mag forum.
He is also now working for PunchFunk Records overseeing the label duties as well as working on his own productions and has projects in the pipeline with Aura and Chris Vaux - keep an eye out for these in the near future.
