At 27 Chris has achieved a hell of a lot as a promoter and the man behind the PunchFunk phenomenon.
As a DJ and artist he is also one of the rising stars of the UK dance scene with a sound and style that has made him synonymous with high quality and energy.
It was in 2004 that the years of practicing on some decks next to his bed began to bear fruit. After spending time in hospital due to a horrific incident leaving him stricken he decided it was time to follow his passion for music and go for broke.
He had finished runner up in the Portsmouth DJ competition Vinyl Meltdown in 2003 and despite still suffering from numerous injuries he picked himself up to win the competition in 2004. A mature music selection of solid underground house, techno and electro fused with classics and astute, energetic mixing laid the foundations for each round and always had everyone in the room captivated. Skills including scratching with his elbow, head and foot amazed the crowd and judges and set the standard for the rest of his career.
A few weeks later and his brain child, PunchFunk, was born.
In his hometown of Portsmouth there was no real scene for the music Chris loved and so he decided a few months before, whilst in hospital, that he would give promoting a go.
After checking out Phil Kieran in Bournemouth he knew he was the special guest he wanted for his first event. Needless to say history was in the making and to a packed club a new name was born in the International club scene.
Chris and PunchFunk have continued their success at a phenomenal rate and in the time since Chris launched his assault on club land has featured along side luminaries such as:
• SLAM
• Josh Wink
• Mauro Picotto
• Eric Prydz
• Nic Fanciulli
• Jo Mills
• Fergie
• Tim Sheridan
• Lottie
• Sander Kleinenberg
Along with many more great names at his own, and other events.
Each artist he has featured in front of has been full of praise for Chris’ talent. Just a couple of recent remarks:
“You can tell he has the passion and knows how to make it happen! “ - Fergie“Chris just loves what he does and it definitely shows. Great music and loads of fun! “- Jo MillsWorking on PunchFunk has given him the chance to host events at some of the Worlds best venues including:
Ministry Of Sound, London.
Turnmills, London
The Opera House, Bournemouth
Panama, Amsterdam
And Chris has also hosted and DJ’d at his own PunchFunk stage at the Hi:Fi festival and also the world renowned Global Gathering festival, both in 2006. It was a tremendous success and helped the reputation of his brand and his talent spread amongst his peers.
Nowadays Chris continues to DJ at high profile events nationwide and across Europe. He is also busy in the studio producing the sort of music he champions in his award winning sets.
Most recently he jetted off to Ibiza for the summer working on a new VIP hospitality service with Charlie Chester. Working with the likes of P.Diddy, Pete Tong and Carl Cox has been a great education for him. Keep an eye out for Icon Ibiza!!
His love for a wide spectrum of electronic music has meant that his sound encompasses many elements of the sort of music that electrifies club. He has just won a radio show following some amazing live radio mixes from PunchFunk. He will present it with PunchFunk wing man Simon Blann who Chris also DJ’s back to back with. It will be available on 93.7FM through Hampshire and on the internet www.expressfm.com. More details on that to follow.
Artists such as SLAM, Phil Kieran, Marco Bailey, Tiefschwarz and Carl Cox were Chris’ biggest influences in his earlier days and fused with the new sounds of Oliver Huntemann, Dave Spoon and labels such as Get Physical, Cocoon and Great Stuff he has developed his own brand of dance floor destruction.
His love of the music he was playing led him to launch PunchFunk Records in 2005 and since then it has received high acclaim including major air play on numerous shows worldwide.
His track “Aim for the head†was supported by the likes of Steve Lawler, Danny Howells and by the Trophy Twins on their Radio 1 show. It reached No1 in several charts including North America’s Nocturnal Magazine and has earned Chris great respect.
His production style is tough, groove driven, electronic techno straddled house music with licks of acid.
