Mitchell Jones is a native of gospel musics reining capital - Detroit, Michigan. He grew up singing gospel in his teenage years and honed his craft singing in various gospel groups. In 1982, Mitchell joined Keith Staten, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, Michael Williams and Fred Hammond in forming, the now Stellar Award-winning legendary landmark group, Commissioned.
Jones has been with Commissioned for over 20 years. He is responsible for writing and performing some of their most loved songs including Victory, Cry On, Only What You Do For Christ Will Last, Hold Me, I Am Here, and Ordinary Just Wont Do.
Being one of the most recognizable voices in gospel music, Jones is known for his smooth, silky style and his ability to capture the mood and spirit of a song. However, his talents are not limited to writing and singing. Jones is also in high demand for his studio production skills. These songs are spread across several millions of copies of albums sold over time.
He has worked with, and written, for such top gospel acts as Angelo and Veronica, Parkes Stewart, Keith Staten, and Virtue, as well as Commissioned. Due to Commissioneds contemporary flare, they have even become notable influences to many R&B artists such as Brian McKnight, 112 (certified gold), Boyz II Men, and Dave Hollister. Mitchell has even received a platinum-selling award for the writing of Cry On performed by 112 featuring P. Diddy on the Tribute to Notorious B.I.G. album in which has become certified triple platinum in album sales. In 1994, Silk remade the same song only to have it penned to Damon Wayans' Blankman soundtrack. Even more recently, Jones Testify was featuring on the WOW Gospel series, which also was certified platinum.
During the Commissioned Reunion tour in 2001, Mitchell had the opportunity to minister to nearly 1 million people in more than 40 cities, and over the years, he has appeared on Bobby Jones Gospel (BET), Praise the Lord (TBN), Soul Train Awards, Stellar Awards, Dove Awards, the Pat Boone Show (TBN), and numerous tours.
Mitchell Jones vision for excellence in music and ministry is carried out through three entities: CrossLife Productions, Shama Records, and Whole Life Ministries. Most recently, Jones has re-released a few of those most loved songs on a compilation album, Still Commissioned: The Songs of Mitchell Jones, which includes two songs of his much anticipated first solo project, Beyond the Veil: The Final Destination featuring his new praise and worship team, 3rd Dimension.
