Days Before Tomorrow Bio
When DBT think of progressive rock, the old bands that come to mind include Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Marillion, and The Police, while the newer bands they think of include Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Coheed & Cambria, and Muse. Somewhere in the midst of bands like all of these is where you’ll find DBT – a nod to the past, but with a sound for tomorrow.
At a minimum, great progressive rock features outstanding musicianship that inspires other musicians and songwriters, has a strong vocal identity, and has songs that take the listener on a journey from the beginning of the first track all the way through to the end of the album. Themes are often present throughout an album, and many songs stretch beyond radio’s preferred three-minutes-or-under format. At its best, great progressive rock incorporates the elements above but presents them in a way that is accessible to the average, mainstream, rock and pop music listener.
Days Before Tomorrow delivers on all fronts: music that appeals to serious music lovers who are tired of the same old boring radio fare, while also delivering music that casual listeners can latch onto and sing along with.
Formed by guitarist Scott Kahn and keyboardist Jason Buchwald in a New Jersey basement in 2005, DBT has already suffered enough melodrama and personnel changes to warrant their own “Behind the Music†episode, but with the addition of vocalist Eric Klein in 2006, they moved forward producing and commercially releasing their debut, self-titled EP. Amidst favorable reviews, the first track, “Can’t Do Anything,†a political statement disguised as a jaded love song, received an honorable mention in Billboard Magazine’s 14th Annual Songwriting Contest this past May.
The band was expanded with second guitarist Derek Davodowich in 2007, and after bassist Chris Walker moved to Finland, Rob Maziekien Jr. (Zeek) steped in to fill the bottom end (yes, beautiful girlfriends can make you do crazy things, not that we have anything against Finland, the Finish people, or Mari in particular).
After a year’s worth of auditioning, and writing songs with the help of various drummer friends of the band, DBT finally talked Jason Gianni into staying;)
DBT currently seek distribution for an independently produced full-length CD to be recorded late in 2007. Lots of great things are in the works for the new year including recording a new song for Sirius Radio and Main Man Records, but we’ll keep those details under wraps for the time being. Stay tuned!
