About Me

Resting Rooster is freedom folk magik act from the middle west. The band was born as an opera intermingling elements of sam shepard, cormac mcarthy, skip spence, and john fahey... the story followed a character named rooster on a killing spree to the south west where he reevaluates his situation after being dosed with medicinal peyote by a native shaman. The opera never happened, we threw it into a pile of other failed projects, set it ablaze, and reevaluated our own situation. This is the product...
In the past two years, David Bower, Joseph Bower, and Cyrus Resur have performed their songs extensively on the road -- sharing the stage with bands such as Vetiver, Lichens, Akron/Family, All Night Radio, The Decemberists, The Walkmen, The Black Angels, and many others...
Sample Reviews:
• "the threesome of Cyrus Resur and Joseph and David Bower (the latter being the songwriter of the group) create almost fragmentary songs that quickly and carefully call up strange, unsettling images and sounds -- it's almost like being in a strange, centuries old dream that keeps jolting the dreamer awake." -- AllMusicGuide.com
• "I listened, I closed my eyes and...very 'electric Greenwich Village' 1967 when experimentation was at its peak. Let's hear more!" Peter Sando (GANDALF)
• "Their breathy and pure songs are very personal. Much talented folks. Check it out!" -- getcho.blogspot.com
• "Playing their hand close, they've confidently composed sonically skewed songs that are intriguing in their unconventionality, and they seem more than willing to gamble that the unique blend of haunting vocals, odd noises, and bare-bones instrumentation on their debut full length Songs From a Window will have many music lovers placing wagers in their favor." www.okayplayer.com
• "Resting Rooster is a sneaky, clever, kaleideoscope, adapting itself to an incredible variety of contexts. The music itself feels like its about to break apart at the seams, bursting with odd contradictions. The lyrics are non-sensical yet intellectual. The emotions are playful yet also seem to have a fragile sadness. Everything seems to be directed towards disorientation. The beautiful repetition is hallucinatory. The odd effect drenched plucks and frenzied sonic changes leave you with a feeling of vertigo." Cryptic Static Magazine
