About Me

Amo Joy is a four, sometimes three and somtimes five, peice indie psych-pop band from Indianapolis IN. It all started when I (Adam) first learned how to speak. I couldn't pronounce my own name, and given the fact that I always spoke in third person for some unkown reason, this posed a problem. I called myself Amo and it's all my parents heard for about a year. Fast forward about twenty years and I am in a band called Electric Kaleidoscope where I wrote plently of songs that the other members didn't think would fit with our sound. So, as most musicians in said situation would do, I started a solo project. Being bad at coming up with names I called myself Amo Autunno and started recording the songs that my band didn't like. I wanted to record them with a better drummer and bassist than myself so I enlisted fellow Comrades member Paul Cobb and Steve Trowbridge to help. We realised that this was fun and we should play more often. We also soon realised that the songs were lacking keyboard and a whole lot of other things. Luckily our good friend Alison Pitt could play keyboard and sing nicely so natuarlly we convinced her to play with us. Thus Amo Joy was formed officialy in january of 2007. We started playing and recording right away and by may of 2007 we had finished our first full length album "The Dictatorial Soiree" and released it ourselves. In Janury of 2008 we went on a southern US/east coast tour during which we realised that touring is amazing, so then in may we went on a west coast tour and we're going on a midwest/ east coast tour in August with a stop at the Athens Popfest. We've decided to bring a limited edition ep of a different live show every time we tour so keep your eyes peeled for those. We just finished our new EP entitled "Theophrastus Bombastus" which is due for release later this summer by Royal Rhino Flying Records. And in case you're interested, here are a few of our likes and dislikes:
We like Psychedelic music, rock music, pop music, old music, new music, and all other kinds of music. We like Melodicas, Slide Whistles, banjos, Danelectros, Synths, Air organs, KAZOOOOOOS, and all other kinds of instruments. We like vintage amps, painting, record collecting, treating the Avett Brothers as a religion(some of us), and CARTOONS! We don't necessarily like mean people, some of us don't necessarily like meat, but we do enjoy beer and movies and all other kinds of things. See you soon!!!!
"Circle 'Round the Sun" Live In Indianapolis Dec. 5th 2007
"Joyous pop music brimming with energy and originality. " - Josh Flynn, Nuvo

"...slightly psychedelic anthem indie-rock. Imagine Destroyer going carefree, and you're close. " - Grayson Currin, The Independent

"If you've ever thought about creating a kazoo troupe, you're too late. Indy's psychedelic "magical mystery band" Amo Joy beat you to the punch... All the jovial Amo Joy needed was a tuba player to replace the bass parts in songs that needed hearty "oompahs" and clowns balancing on giant rubber balls for more novelty."- Leslie Benson, Nuvo

"They match the absurdity of psychedelia with pop likeability to craft skewed masterpeices. Their music is the optimistic alternative to angst-ridden bands like Margot and the Nuclear So and So's. Amo Joy's songs are free of soul searching angst and chock full of... Joy." - Barfly

"This four peice out of Butler might be described as circus indie-rock, and finds antecedents in the kitchen-sink aesthetics of the Athens, Ga., collective Elephant 6 and the ecstatic psychedelia of The Polyphonic Spree." - Scott Shoger, Nuvo
