The Hot Air (bio)
Back in 1996, the Air Conditioners (tAC) became a 2 * MAN * BAND * FULL* BAND* SOUND" all due to the talents of producer & multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Tom Mabe - (www.tommabe.com) for a few short and incredibly productive months.
The lads had tremendous success & radio play throughout the Southeast and were one of the first 1000 bands to utilize the 'net to promote their independent records via mp3 technology during the developmental days of the web (1996-2001). Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Flo, started www.52media.com in 1998 to help other, more deserving, artists do the same. See our page at YouTube.com/52media for a taste of some of the 1,000s of bands we featured back before bandwidth went corporate.
In 1999, Flo convinced some of largest online media companies such as microsoft, iuma, mp3.com, riffage and rioport to sponsor the world's first All-Indie 35-hour video WebCast spotlighting artists such as My Morning Jacket (ATO Records), Moe Laughran (winner of a 2004 AMA), Paul K and the Prayers, the Selzers and many many more. We helped raise over 2-tons of canned goods for the Kentucky Harvest Foundation and are thinking of doing another WebCast in 2009, the 10th anniversary.
Today, Tom Mabe has several highly successful comedy records on virgin records with "the Revenge on the Telemarketers" series and has traveled the country hitting the morning show circuit (Bob & Tom, etc.). He is currently working on a pilot called "Mabe in America" for cable television and is father of 2 Mabettes.
Flo is currently developing future distribution options for bands with weedshare (RIP), ip-multicasting/IPTV and is a moderator for the RealityBB's A&R Department (www.realitybb.com).
52media became one the top promotions sites for independent audio and video prior to the tech sector stock market crash of 2001 and is currently in hibernation until we can figure out our bandwidth issues.
tAC and everybody at 52media appreciates the hard work of sites such as MySpace, which is one of the better (spaces) an unsigned artist can use to promote their music on the web today.
