About Me

Hey Hey Melodica began in 2006 as an attempt by long-term friends Anthoney Scroggins, David Petrison, and Nathaniel Sparks to take Anthoney's solo acoustic songs and invigorate them with a full-blooded rock sound. Cellist Matt Jarrard, included on some early recordings, helped out by lending his unique voice to the mix before making a move to Georgia in June 2007. By July, fan and fellow high school-friend Tucker was added to the line-up on trumpet and any other instrument the band keeps on-stage. With diverse backgrounds such as hardcore, country, metal, shoegaze, post-punk, new wave, pop, electronic, and folk, the group uses everything at their disposal to help accentuate Anthoney's songwriting and voice. HHM's current line-up includes the prodigious Brian Dove on drums.

Influences: a common love for Elliott Smith between members sprouted the band and it took off from there.
Sounds Like: sad people on their happy days, a helium balloon floating towards the clouds, a boy releasing a mended hawk into a forest, a rainy day at the fair, a view of the giant inflatable dancing men outside of car dealerships, a wintry walk through a human-sized labyrinth, a house party thrown by your closest friends with only half a dozen or so stragglers, that feeling of curling up with a good book under the college dorm's stairwell, the sound of thunder rumbling through the walls at night purring you asleep, the first time you made a mix cd for that certain someone, the first time you held your lover's hand, the first time you felt homesick and gave your folks a call, the films of Hayao Miyazaki, the times you shot off fireworks above your neighbor's driveway, the crackling sounds of frozen trees thawing after an ice storm, the future as seen in elementary school educational videos, a game of cards at a local diner, the sense of familiarity you have when meeting a new outstanding person, some words, a guitar, rhythm, a few higher numbered chords, and a hummable melody.
