About Me

Michael Dubin:
A versatile multi instrumentalist playing drums, guitar, and percussion, born July 4th 1970 in Chicago Illinois, Michael grew up in a musical/show business family and was exposed from day one to the worlds greatest drummers at his Granfather (PAS Hall of Fame Drummer), Maurie Lishon's world famous FRANKS DRUM SHOP.
Michael has studied drums with Chicago Legend Phil Stanger and The Infamous Freddie Gruber (oh the stories I could tell), along with Gregg Bissonette, Jim Ganduglia (Johnny Mathis MD), and hand drumming w/Leon Mobley.
As a solo artist Michael has produced two CD's: The Little Red Box of which he plays drums, percussion, guitars, bass, keyboards, and sings. And, Coming Back w/Gregory Erba an exciting studio rock project both available on CD BABY. Michael is currently working on a new CD of jazz inspired rhythms and world music, melded with his love of the blues! Also, in the works are new rock tunes for SNOCAP release.
Making his debut as a commercial producer, Michael just completed music for an upcoming Ashley Furniture spot from award winning director Jaret Sacrey. You can also see Michael playing guitar on the steps of an old NYC brownstone surrounded by beautiful women in the soon to be released Ashley commercial. Michael has also scored the indie film Tonight Only by Jaret Sacrey with an improvised jazz soundtrack.
In June of 2007 Michael (guitar) and his brother BJ Dubin (guitar, piano) played at The Monterey Bay Blues Festival with their group 226 SOUTH WABASH (the former address of FRANKS DRUM SHOP in Chicago IL. This was a blues dream realized for the Dubin Brothers. Michael has also been featured on many of BJ's solo recordings for Recluse Records.
Michael has played drums with Black Note of which he was a regular sub for Willie Jones lll (Roy Hargrove, Sonny Rollins), Ann Keeler, Nicolle Martel w/The Maestro Delbert Taylor, A Night w/Paul Lynde staring Michael Airington, house drummer for The Pickering Street Players with Musical Director Paul Cady, Danny Gale on Royal Carribean's Legend of The Seas, singer Jeff Jones in Italy, and Osama Affifi's Eclectic Trio (The Doors 2000).
As a drummer, Michael has also led his own jazz groups and jam sessions that have included musicians: Greg Erba, Vernell Brown Jr. (Kenny Garrett), Eric Reed (Wynton Marsalis), Mike Elizando (Fiona Apple), Yogi (Chris Cornell), Gilbert Castellanos (Clayton Hamilton), Angel Lebron (El Sabor Latino, Drums Of Passion), LA session ace Shea Welsh, and DJ Bonebrake (X), and many other great musicians.
The Dubin Collective an original jazz group featuring Michael on drums, DJ Bonebrake, Shea Welsh, Angel Lebron, Michael Fortunato, and Evan Calbi, met every Monday night, from 2005-2007, to workshop original material, has performed at DUBES, The Verity Room, The Jazz Bakery, and Shea Welsh's High School Summer Jazz Program at USC.
Michael is an in demand educator and has taught drums, guitar, bass, and percussion at Drummers World, The Music School, Woodlow Music, and three jazz ensembles at The New Roads School in Santa Monica, CA from 2004-2005. He has also been a visiting teacher at Esalen Inst. in Big Sur, CA.
