Menino, quem foi seu mestre?

About Me

Born in Long Beach, California. LBC. That's where I live. I love and play many types of music. That's my life. Funk and Brasilian music pretty much top my list though. I have a band called Delta Nove. We play a mix of funk, Brasilian, rock, reggae, afrobeat, and more. Just all funky stuff from around the world, and we tour all around the country and beyond. We have had many adventures around the country as we spread our sound, and met many wonderful people. I also try to make time for other musical endeavors, writing, sessions, producing, and whatever freaks my ear. In my band I sing and play electric guitar, Brasilian percussion, and a sampler. I also love to play bass, cavaquinho, violao, steel pan, and whatever else I can get the sounds I hear out of. Capoeira is very, very important to me. That's my life too. Capoeira is perfect for me. It consists of a blend of music with martial art, intense physical interplay, cultura brasileira, philosophy of life, and so much more I can't possibly list it here. I train with Centrosul Capoeira under Contra Mestre Gui, with whom I have trained since I started capoeira. Our Mestre is Mestre Deputado. I have also been involved with Capoeira Batuque under Mestre Amen for a long long time. I consider them all family. Since I travel so much with my band, I have the opportunity to visit many different capoeira schools and groups around the country. This gives me a different perspective on capoeira, a more global vision I believe. I have met many great people, extended family around the country. I've spent a lot of time in Brasil. 4 times now and counting. I am extremely drawn to Brasil. A lot of people think I'm Brasilian, but I'm Korean and American (English). Brasil is like a parallel universe to my universe, but with a tropical twist. All of the African cultural traditions that have been kept alive and that are thriving in Brasilian culture fill that space of what was prohibited and stripped from the African culture brought to the US. And what created samba, capoeira, batuque, chorinho, maracatu, afro-samba, and much more is so beautiful to me. I also like skateboarding, snowboarding, bigfoot, jumping off of big rocks into the ocean, and gardening.www.myspace.com/deltanoveband www.deltanoveband.com Check out our studio The Compound in Long Beach www.compoundstudio.com
