What is Capoeira? Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is disguised as a dance. Its popularity in the United States has risen over the years, making it a fast growing martial art. In 1993, a movie titled "Only the Strong" was produced by Hollywood, making capoeira first known to people. With that as a starting point, capoeira has shown up in other movies such as "Blade" , "Catwoman" (Halle Berry), and soon to be released "Aeon Flux" (Charlize Theron). Capoeira has also made its way to video games, specifically Tekken 3 (Eddie Gordo).
Capoeira Batuque has been around for 15 years and it's founder is Mestre Amen Santo ("Only the Strong"). We are based out in Culver City, California, and we have locations in Santa Barbara, Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley, Santa Ana, Milwaukee (Wisconsin), and Tokyo (Japan).
