About Me
Evil Farm Children, the name may sound like a B-grade drive-in horror flick, but..........This Ottawa based trio is raw and raunchy, with a reputation for intense stage shows and a growing legion of fans. Since forming in the summer of 2005, the trio have played at many of the main nightclubs in the Ottawa region, including Barrymores Music Hall and Zaphod Beeblebrox. They have also shared the stage with some of Ottawas finest local bands, such as Big Jeezus Truck, Good2Go, Lefty McRighty and the Boxcar Cadavers, and The Bushpilots.Their sound is rock n roll, with a roots rock flavour. This band can easily do a rocking surf instrumental with the fervor and zest of Dick Dale, and, within a heartbeat, shift gears and roll right into a twangy country murder ballad, a rockin rockabilly rave up, or a Stooges influenced, feedback infused, pounding rocknroll song. The band includes some veterans of the Ottawa music scene:Dave Kerr plays guitar and sings the bulk of the lead vocals. Dave, along with his cousin Ryan, (later of the Phantom Shifters fame) was a founding member of the grunge metal band DeadBeatDads. He also played in the short-lived pop punk project WizzleTeeth.Jeb Bond pounds the drums and does background vocals. Jeb has played drums in numerous Ottawa bands over the years, starting back in the early 80s with the Ottawa punk band The Restless Virgins. Next, Jeb was a founding member of the power-pop band Screaming Bamboo, who toured Canada and charted on College radio during the mid-80s. Jeb has also played in The Fentons, Evil Knievel, Purple, The Hooblers, to name a few. During a 3 year stint in Baton Rouge, he played in the band Tall, and, upon returning to Ottawa, was a founding member of Freudhammer. He is also currently a member of the drum and guitar duo Three Legged Man.Janice Fitzsimmons rounds out the trio on bass and vocals. Janice is a founding member of EFC, and has been working with Dave on this project since late 2004, when they formed the short-lived band The Ambassadors. She also plays in the all-girl band, Revv Engine. In the fall of 2006, EFC released their 5 song CD EP, KNUCKLEDUSTER. Recorded over August of 2006, the CD captures the raw feel of an Evil Farm Children concert. Overdubs were kept to a minimum to preserve the raunchy sound of their live shows. This recording contains all original material, and includes the surf-style instrumental KNUCKLE DUSTER (included on the soundtrack to the documentary PROJECT CANADA, see our top friends list), the murderous twang of YOU I’LL SEE IN HELL, the raunchy rock n roll of STRAIGHT N NARROW and COMPELLLED, and the psychobilly raveup YOUR TIME IS UP. The CD has charted on both CKCU and CHUO in Ottawa and has been selected as one of the best local releases of 2006 by CKCU DJs Dick Altavista, Steve Kirkland, and Dave Aardvark.
The band has been known to pull out a surf-rock version of Max Webster’s HANGOVER, a heavy bluesy version of Tom Waits GOIN’ OUT WEST, as well as other revved up adaptations of songs from artists like Deke Dickerson, Dick Dale, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and even Black Sabbath, all done with their own particular Evil Farm Children twist. So, the next time you have a craving to hear some good, unadulterated Rock N Roll, with a twangy flavour, make sure and check out the EVIL FARM CHILDREN!
